WE can make it due like Tuesday at noon or somethign if you want... since we're doing side panels and not a Blog spot going forward...

Ok, I am gonna say this is the most retarded way imaginable to rank conferences. No offense but you basically just penalized the big ten because we had a team ranked 25th. If that team wasnt in the top 25 ie. if they were WORSE our conference rank by your system would have been 8.38 putting us in the lead. If you want to use this to rank conferences you should do it the same way the voting works, give the conference with the best team 26 points ect ect.
And if they were better by one place do you still include them?
Hell, its a discussion point so I'm not going to take offense at your rating of those rankings.:tongue2:

Another way to look at the poll on a conference by conference basis is the depth displayed by the number of teams ranked versus the size of the conference. That, combined with the rank (average) gives some indication of the depth of strength in the conference as predicted by our voters.
Which puts the SEC as the deepest conference, followed by the Big 10, then the ACC and the Big 12. All others are also rans having only one conference member represented.

I like the idea of a BP poll. I'll probably like the results better week in and out than I will any of the media polls (including the Harris poll).

I had an idea recently, and wanted to see what other people thought, but I don't think it belongs on a new thread, yet. For the past couple of years, I've been playing with creating my own computer poll, and I'll do it again, this year (though it needs some serious "fixing," after it only predicted 14/28 bowl games accurately).

Anyway, the question is whether any of you guys care about the results. I can post them here if some of you care, but if no one cares, I won't bother with it.

Would we use that in conjuction with the BP poll and donny's poll to decide which teams get to play in the BPS games? :p

 50% ain't bad... if you had just flipped a coin for each game you could have had a coin stand on end once, so your way is still better.

Seriously though, even if you got the ranking right, the best team doesn't always win the game.

I'm also a pollster, and I'm also kinda curious for the way everyone voted. Not that anybody else really cares, but here's what I submitted:

For this poll, it seemed to me that there was a pretty clear division beteen #1, #2-10, and #11-on. I sorted things out from there based on who O felt would beat whom in a neutral site matchup at the beginning of the season. I do not see this as an expected order of finish.

A talented roster is a big factor, but I think my votes reflect a premium on top-flight head coaching. Most other things being equal (so to speak), I gave higher rankings to teams with coaches who have shown a propensity for maximizing talent, superior gameplanning and playcalling, and the ability to make in-game and in-season adjustments. That was my rationale for placing Ohio State above Texas and LSU, and also explains why I have Iowa ahead of Miami, Georgia, and M*ch*g*n. Additionally, that is why I have placed Virginia Tech at the top of what I saw as the "third tier". Finally, I tended to approach teams with new coaches with caution (see: LSU, Florida) While these teams and coaches are both talented, these situations are somewhat uncertain nonetheless.

I snuck into the poll somehow... shhhhh. Not too far off the mindmeld, which is not surprising since all I know about the game I learned from you all and one like-minded individual who got me hooked in the first place. Going to have to watch a lot more games this season now... darn.

Hey, you, I earned this. I... eh, whatever. Anyway, I've been studying up on my Vince Lombardi "Winning with Football" tapes, so we'll just see who the expert is around here by the end of the season, okay? Heck, I might even go get an XBox... WATCH OUT.

Here's my preseason ballot, for those who care. My top 12 or so are ranked on a combination of how good I think the teams are now, and how deserving they would be of a BCS spot if they went undefeated. Which is somewhat opposite of what a lot of preseason rankings are, since many media voters are making a prediction, largely based on how easy someone's schedule is. But I also believe in moving teams around quite a bit based on actual game results throughout the season.
