Boston Celtics (18x NBA champions)

Erden and Harangody to Cavs for draft pick.

2013 second rounder...As a Cavs fan I'd rather have the pick back.

Not sure what Boston is thinking though. They're left with 2 centers who haven't been healthy all year in Shaq and Jermiane O'neal. I'd be livid as a Boston fan.

I don't think they're done trading yet. They have to get another big man.

Well the deadline just passed at 3pm.

They're talking about signing Troy Murphy who is a PF once he gets bought out but that doesn't help at center.

Some small chatter Rasheed might come out of retirement, but he hasn't played all year.

Again, crazy stuff.....Boston was the favorite to win the title. Right now they aren't even the favorite to come out of the East.

they got kristic back from OKC to be a backup center to Shaq. Green is a versatile 3/4 that can guard bosh. I can see why Boston made this deal, especially with perkins being a FA at the end of the year. garnett can guard chumps like joel anthony and Z at the 5 spot if need be.

false. Erden is a legit backup center and actually played well when given some run. he's better than anything cleveland would get with a 2nd rounder in 3 years.

why? i dont know much about these 2 players (i remember watching harangoody at ND) but 2nd round picks can be easily obtained in the NBA for cash...and with a owner like Gilbert that wont be hard to come by...also this was a 2nd round pick we got when we traded delonte west to minnesota so the pick will essentially be protected from Minn.

it depends on whose 2nd round pick. If that's the Cavs at the top of second round, its like a late first.

A pick like that this year could net you a guy like Chris Singleton with huge upside.

Boston just made a clarification on the trade which doesn't make it so horrific. Boston receives the LA Clippers 2012 first round pick that OKC owned.

Otherwise Danny Ainge should have been shot.

like i said above its the 2nd round pick owned by Minnesota that was sent to the cavs in the delonte west/ramon sessions trade...so it could possibly be a good draft pick

Maybe the Celtics can bring Leon Powe back if he isn't still mad at them. IIRC he was their enforcer before Perkins.

Leon Powe isn't the same after blowing his knee out.

Kendrick Perkins is probably the best Pick and Roll defender at center in the league, and the guy is tough as nails.

I'm still shocked and upset Ainge would give that away as they pursue a title this year. LeBron and Wade are going to feast on pick and rolls as they draw Shaq away from the hoop.

On the bright side for the Celtics the Heat might not be able to make it past the Bulls in the second round.

When did Kendrick Perkins turn into Bill Russell? The hand-wringing over his departure is hilarious. First off, he rejected a $30 million/4 year contract extension earlier this month so it was likely he would get dealt rather than eventually leave for nothing. There was no logical reason to pay him more than that, especially given his blown out knee (which is injured again, btw). Let's see how he does in OKC before planning his HOF induction.

Jeff Green was originally drafted by the Celtics (traded in Ray Allen deal), gives them depth at the 3/4 spot and an heir apparent to Paul Pierce/KG. The first round draft pick in 2012 (from the Clippers thru OKC) is also a good move because the "big three" are going to hit the wall sooner, not later.

Boston had the best record in the East and did most of it without [strike]Wilt Chamberlain[/strike] Perkins this season. If they get Murphy to go with Krstic and the old O'Neals that's more than enough to contend for the title this year. The move for Green and the 1st rounder makes them better going forward.

Just wait for the Heat series this year when Shaq and Jermaine O'Neal get eaten alive on pick and rolls.

Boston lost the mental edge they had on teams. No one is calling Kendrick Perkins Bill Russel but his no-nonsense attitude and physical play was something that brought an extra edge to that team.

I think you're under-estimating how important he was as an anchor to that team defensively. He protects the paint as well as anyone in the NBA today.

And enjoy the walking turnover that is Kristic.
