NBA notebook: Celtics' 11th straight win derails Blazers

Saturday, December 6, 2008 2:57 AM

Associated Press

Ray Allen scored 19 points and Rajon Rondo followed his first career triple-double with 16 points, eight rebounds and seven assists last night to lead the Boston Celtics to a 93-78 victory over the visiting Portland Trail Blazers.
Boston's 11th straight win -- its longest streak since its championship-winning season of 1985-86 -- snapped Portland's six-game winning streak. It was the first time the Trail Blazers lost with Greg Oden in the starting lineup since the season opener, when he left scoreless because of a sprained right foot after less than 13 minutes.

Celtics are the best team in the East...besides the Cavs. Cavs are gelling...bench is the best in the NBA. Boston isn't deep enough for a 7 game series with the Cavs. Redemption is coming

It would be a great series again but there is a long way to go before we get there............Cleveland is better but Boston seems to be better also....Rondo and Perkins are much improved from last year........

Ray Allen scored a season-high 35 points, and Boston defeated Indiana 122-117 in overtime yesterday in Indianapolis to extend their winning streak to 12 games.
Kevin Garnett had 17 points, 20 rebounds and five steals, Paul Pierce had 17 points and eight rebounds and Eddie House had 15 points for Boston (20-2). The Celtics are on their longest win streak since 1986, when they won 14 straight on their way to the NBA title.

The hot shooting of Ray Allen helped the Celtics edge the Pacers for their 12th straight victory.
Allen Has Regained His Legendary Shooting Touch

The defending NBA champion Boston Celtics now own a league-best 20-2 record and a 12-game winning streak. With up-tempo and improved play from young point guard Rajon Rondo, Boston is making a push to put four players in the NBA All-Star Game. And the big Christmas showdown between the Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers is not far away.
Hidden in all grand Celtics talk right now is that Ray Allen has not only regained his old stellar shooting form, but has also been the champs' MVP so far. Allen scored a season-high 35 points, nailed seven 3-pointers and sank a key trey down the stretch during a 122-117 road overtime victory over the Indiana Pacers on Sunday night. Over the past five games, while playing with fellow stars Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, the now-healthy Allen has averaged 24.5 points, nailed 19-of-42 3-pointers and missed only one of 15 free throw attempts.
"Ray's just on fire," said Celtics coach Doc Rivers after the Indiana game. "He had a great game and a great overtime. He hit all the shots when we needed him to."

The Sports Network - National Basketball Association

Boston, MA (Sports Network) - Boston Celtics forward Glen Davis was reportedly in a car accident Sunday afternoon and is currently at Brigham and Women's Hospital.
According to a report in The Boston Globe, Davis suffered whiplash and a concussion following a mid-afternoon car crash on the Mass Pike.
"Big Baby" did not play in Sunday evening's 124-105 victory over the New York Knicks, and it is yet to be determined how long the second-year player will be sidelined. Davis is averaging 3.6 points and 3.0 rebounds in 16.4 minutes this season for the Celtics, who tied a franchise record with their 18th consecutive win Sunday.
No word on whether or not he cried.....

I'm hoping the game last night showed that the Magic don't shoot as well when a team defends them. I guess we'll see if that holds true next week. I find it interesting that the Celtics have played 5 more games than the Cavs.

Can someone explain to me how a Wade-less Heat team is leading Boston at the half? I thought the Heat were Wade.
Boston is minus Garnett, Ray Allen, Tony Allen, Leon Powe and Brian Scalabrine. Still, the game's in Boston and Wade is that whole team, no reason Boston still shouldn't be winning this game. They still have Pierce who is far better than anybody Miami is putting on the court.
