Celts' Garnett suspended; Bogut's foul upgraded

The Boston Celtics will take a hit for Kevin Garnett's hit.
The NBA announced on Monday that the All-Star forward will be suspended for one game for hitting Milwaukee Bucks center Andrew Bogut in the face on Saturday.
Bogut didn't get off, however, with the league also upgrading the foul he committed that started the altercation to a Flagrant 1.
The incident happened late in the fourth quarter of the Celtics' 102-97 overtime win in Milwaukee.
Garnett will sit out Tuesday's game against the New York Knicks in Boston.

Notebook: Celtics still too tough for Pistons

Friday, November 21, 2008 3:12 AM

Rajon Rondo had 18 points and eight assists, outplaying new Pistons acquisition Allen Iverson and leading the Boston Celtics to a 98-80 victory over visiting Detroit last night in a rematch of last season's Eastern Conference finals.
Iverson had 16 points and four assists for Detroit, which fell to 4-3 since he was acquired from Denver for Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess. Iverson helped the Pistons beat the previously undefeated Lakers and snap Cleveland's eight-game win streak, but he hasn't changed their lot when it comes to the defending NBA champions.

Team OK, but Pierce has better idea

WALTHAM - According to their record, the Celtics are as good as they were last year at this point.
According to Paul Pierce, that's not necessarily good enough.
The league is better this year, which, by his estimation, means they have to be better as well.
"Last year was last year," said Pierce. "It's better teams in the East this year. It's better teams in the West. We're taking it one game at a time. We're not looking back at what we did last year because it's a different team."
Despite a tough stretch of scheduling and an offense that lagged behind their smothering defense, the Celtics have a 13-2 record that is the best in the Eastern Conference.
The offense is averaging 101.6 points since beating Atlanta, 103-102, Nov. 12, and Kendrick Perkins said it's starting to get where it needs to be.
"Our defense's been there," he said. "But it seems like offensively we're starting to really get it down pat. We're moving the ball, guys are taking their shots, guys are finishing around the basket. It just feels good right now."

CELTICS NOTES: Rivers named coach of the month

BOSTON ?
The NBA championship trophy made the rounds over the summer, winding up in central Florida for a few days.
Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers kept the trophy in his suburban Orlando home, admiring the spoils that came with the franchise?s first title in 22 years.
?I set it at the breakfast table every morning,?? said Rivers before a 107-88 victory over the Orlando Magic on Monday night. ?I didn?t have a party, I just kept it in the house. I just wanted to look at it and be very close to it.
?I refused to touch it (before winning the title). In my life, I never touched that trophy. I had been in the room with it a lot, I just didn?t think you should touch it unless you win it.??

I can't honestly think of a time where I've seen a professional player cry. Not in a tears of happiness manner, or losing a championship. But crying in a temper-tantrum type way. I guess I remember a boxer doing it once.

Glenn Davis threw a temper tantrum and cried on the bench tonight. The Celtics bench let the Blazers back into it, and some of the starters had to come back in to hold the fort down.

KG ripped into the bench, primarily "Big Baby" Davis. Big Baby didn't want to partake in a timeout huddle, KG grabs him by the arm, puts him into the huddle, and verbally gets after the team.

Glenn at one point, rips his arm away from KG's grasp, walks to the end of the bench, yells an obscenity towards the huddle, and begins crying....for a moment.

Later in the game, the entire bench cheers a run by the Celtics, and Big Baby is the only player on the team sitting on the bench with a towel over his head sulking. At least it was more entertaining than the game...

Big Baby certainly lived up to the Big Baby moniker tonight.

Celtics are the best team in the East...besides the Cavs. Cavs are gelling...bench is the best in the NBA. Boston isn't deep enough for a 7 game series with the Cavs. Redemption is coming

What did that have to do with his post?

I fortunately missed the game tonight. It's the 4th of a 5 game Eastern conference road trip and Boston is the best team(or at least top 2) in the NBA but I expected more. This is a good reality check though. We're good but we're definitely on the 2nd tier of contenders.
