Boise State 33, Virginia Tech 30 (final)

I feel a bit conflicted. I like this Boise team, they are really good, but there is no way in hell they deserve to play in the BCS Title Game if they go undefeated. Virginia Tech is always overrated and will be a 3-4 loss team this year. I can't remember the last time Virginia Tech beat a top ten team (back when they had Mike Vick)? Brent and ESPN make it seem like VaTech is a real top ten team, when everyone knows they always underachieve and are a perennial 15-20 team, not a top ten team. Oregon State is also a 4 loss team and you don't deserve to be in the title game if you beat two 4 loss teams and a bunch of teams from the pathetic WAC.

I'm sure Boise wants to play more good BCS teams every year, but no Big Ten or SEC or Big 12 team wants to play them because the Big Ten or SEC team gets 0 benefit out of beating Boise. Playing Boise as an upper echelon school can only kill your season because if you go undefeated, you are going to the title game anyway. If you lose to Boise, you become a national laughing stock. Like everyone else, Boise has no business being in the national title game discussion even if they win every game by 30. I do wish Boise was in the MWC this year so they could play some more real teams.

I just can't get over how badly coached VaTech looked. They self destruct early like they have never played a good team before.

Then they dig themselves a deeper hole by trying trick plays.

Then they go to the prevent D at the beginning of the 4th quarter.

Then they botch the clock at the end.

Then they go for bombs instead of 10 to 15 yard curls

way to go, Beamer

Ok, I don't mean to be a dick but calm the fuck down. There seems to be a lot of hand ringing about Boise State going for Buckeye fans tonight.

Knock that shit off, we're going to beat Miami this week. Then we're going to go to Wisco on October 16th and beat them, in fact I think Tress should see if he can make them cry in stead of jump. November 13th we'll beat Penn State, Ohio Stadium will be so frightening to JoePa; exacerbated by his increasing dementia that he will retire at halftime. Next up going to Iowa were they will implement their blackout, something that is not intimidating at all because they don't have an understanding of spacial perception. HEY IOWA PENN STATES WHITE OUT IS WHAT IT IS BECAUSE OF THE WHITE IT MAKES THE CROWD MORE VISIBLE WHEN YOU WEAR BLACK AT NIGHT IT LOOKS LIKE NO ONE'S THERE. Then we get to go to end Dickie's career in a celebratory beat down as a send off to our MNC game. Furthermore we won't have any catastrophes against teams we should crush because our coach will not let this team have a letdown or look ahead. If he was ever even slightly content after 2002 he will never be again after 2006.

To put it another way Boise State doesn't control our destiny we do. So for God's sake stop fretting over some Pop Warner team taking our place we are high school varsity here. Those starry eyed bitches imagine wearing our Letterman Jackets we don't give a shit about their orange slices at half time.

Now stop acting like their dad is telling us to play nice and lets go fuck some cheerleaders.

Be truthful about it?? USC was pretty average last year, so that loss was pretty bad at home. And nobody ever tried giving Boise State 10 championships...

In fact, I haven;t heard anybody give them 1 championship...it's just overblown hatred for a mid-major that plays some bad-ass football. Chris Peterson has this program rolling, and in fact, Peterson was the reason they were winning under Dan Hawkins. Peterson has been the general in charge of the offense since he got to Boise, and that program has been solid since.

They deserve some credit...great program, that coaches it's players up. You'd think that a fanbase that has seen A.J. Hawk, Nick Mangold, Malcolm Jenkins, even Jonathon Hankins would appreciate the job these guys do as a staff...

An unnamed front four just dominated the LOS against a team with a Heisman candidate. Again, Va Tech's best offense was when Taylor escaped the pocket...

I think Boise is a program with less talent, but much better coaching and scheme...bottom line.

And I might say it is overblown cheerleading for a team that doesn't really deserve it if they want to be considered with the same criteria as the "big boys" are judged, but I guess we all have our opinions.

And many of the same people rushing to the defense of Boise State are the same ones decrying Penn State's inflated ranking and victory totals from their cremepuff OOC schedule in recent years...difference being 1/3-1/2 of PSU's schedule had those teams...3/4 of Boise's did.

Wow.

I would point out that it is not dementia, but rather incontinence and other intestinal issues that would keep JoePa sitting (so to say).

BTW one more thought on the "what else are they supposed to do" argument. A lot of people forget Utah was Boise before Boise was...making BCS games, punking out teams like Pitt, going undefeated, knocking off Alabama...they made a decision to pursue a new destination in the PAC 10 to hit the real big time. Boise's decision was to go to the conference that Utah and BYU just left to try and make a "better" mid-major conference. Yes, many factors go into conference alignments, but everyone please spare me the notion that it was driven by academics or women's field hockey. Football drove the realignment because that's where the money is made, and Boise will still be in a mid-major conference, which may be almost as weak as the WAC was without Utah and BYU. Their choice to move to the MWC when they did.

and magically Utah has been able to schedule big time opponents despite the claim that no one will play the Boise state type teams. They go out and earn respect.

Boise was a nice team, but their glaring flaws in the back 7 were exposed again, and they really did not generate that much pressure on Taylor. Most of their contact came on scrambles. Taylor is a great athlete but does not relocate in the pocket very efficiently.

They would be a 9 win team in some leagues. They did not show anywhere near enough to convince the world that they are better thsn a 1 loss bama or OSU, let alone be ranked above everyone but those two.

So the PAC 10 would listen to Boise about joining the conference???

Hypothethically, Boise runs the table but misses the BCS title game and then beats an Alabama, Florida, Oklahoma (again), etc......

Then what? It's a stupid system, and under the current format, Boise really has no chance....so what's the point? Either give them a chance, or make a new division.....

I wouldn't get too uptight

Boise isn't going to be able to hang on in the polls over teams in BCS conferences that run the table undefeated, they just won't.

If the teams in BCS conferences slip up and there isn't 2 undefeated BCS teams to put into the title game and Boise gets in then tough. Once you lose a game you don't really have a lot of room to complain about who got in imo looking at you 2003 USC. It isn't enough to just make the title game anyway they'll still have to beat a great team. If they do then maybe they were a bit more deserving then people thought, if they get their asses stomped they wouldn't be the first team to get blown out on that stage.

Boise State versus SEC

Team

Win Loss Tie Pct. PF PA Delta
Arkansas 0 2 0 0.00 45 79 -34
Georgia 0 1 0 0.00 13 48 -35
S Carolina 0 1 0 0.00 13 32 -19

Totals 0 4 0 0.00 71 159 -88

What was Butlers record versus the BCS conference schools before this season? Past performance doesn't guarantee much.

After seeing how easily Hawaii was able to move the ball through the air on USC, they might be able to do some damage on Boise's secondary. Having to play at Boise in November may derail them though. If that game was in Hawaii that would be very interesting.

They still have some landmines left on their schedule. At Fresno State could be tricky. Oregon State with a more experienced Katz by the time they play. Utah State played Oklahoma tough.

I think it's way too early to think about them playing for a national title. Their argument is going to be made on what kind of success Oregon State and Tech have in conference and whether they can hammer their WAC and Non BCS weak in and weak out.

People ripped Memphis for playing a weak schedule in hoops under Clean Cal but they stepped up and won their OOC games and gave beating worthy of joe pesci at the end of Casino to most of their conference foes.

If they want to be even in the discussion they have to merk everyone in the WAC
