Oddly, I disagree. :biggrin: While he looked really silly and unprofessional in his indecision, I have to like the fact that he gave up millions to stay at the college level. I wish more college coaches and pre-senior year college athletes came to the same decision. It was handled poorly by Billy, no doubt, but I can not say I have never made a mistake. His is more visible than ours due to the nature of the job. If his heart was not in it, then he decided to look like an idiot and return to where his heart told him to stay.

I could see how the money and the chance to coach at the hightest level was a lure that made him make a bad decision. Suffice it to say, the fact that it was Billy and not your coach is the biggest factor in our two perspectives. Just my opinion.

This might be a little off-topic but it has been something I have been meaning to toss out for quite some time. I can remember years ago, probably 20, Jimmie Rodgers (SP?) Was the assistant coach for the Cavs and was offered the HC job at Bradley or vice versa. Anyhow, he says that there was more coaching done in the last two minutes of a professional game then there was during an entire college game. That quote that stuck with me for a long time. Remember, it was 15-20 years ago.

Well, I hope he doesn't ever consider coming to the NBA, this is a huge black mark for him. Taking a college coach into the NBA is a huge risk anyways, a large portion of the college coaching experience is recruiting the talent, now take that away and suddenly you have to lose to get the great talent and you have a whole different ball game. Either way, I feel for the Magic, they are getting jacked on this whole ordeal.

Late Wednesday the Magic and Billy signed the deal voiding the prior contract.

This morning UF Athletic Director Jeremy Foley announced that Billy D. agreed to six years at 3.5 Million with an option for year 7. He also said Urban Meyer agreed to an extension for 3.25 million for six years with an option for 7. If they put it to ink, I do not know yet, but all have agreed. As it is a State University, it may have to be blessed by various committees and such, but both deals are done.

Me happy.

3.5 mil for a college bball coach? Ouch!

Let's round the Schott up to 20 thousand and say we play 20 home games. That would work out to $8.75 per spectator per game.

For the coach.

Of course, he doesn't get that all important free education.

Schlabach: Donovan rips Baby Gators in loss

"It's in front of our guys, what it takes to win," Donovan said. "For whatever reason, I haven't brought it out in them. They're not committed to it. But I'm not necessarily really that excited about these guys being sophomores, to be honest. I don't think people change a whole lot, and I don't think you've seen the basketball team change at all this year. So it's hard for me to get overly thrilled or excited."

"I think we have some talent issues on the defensive end of the floor, foot-speed-wise, that sometimes is not all their fault," Donovan said. "But I think we have a commitment issue, too, which bothers me as a coach because I just got done coaching a group the last two years that was so committed. And to be with this group, I don't think just because they're going to be another year older that all of a sudden, everything gets resolved. I don't see that."

WOW, both Florida coaches (BD and UM) have now come out with remarks like this chastising a group of young men that just poured out their heart and soul for their school. This is unbelievable. You just odn't publically do this. I would transfer if I knew my coach wasn't committed to helping me better myself. It sounds as if Billy has given up on these kids after ONE year. Speights and Calathes should go pro. No sense in fighting for a guy who won't do it for you. Wouldn't be funny if everyboyd transferred? lol. Not saying it will hapen, obvioualy it wouldn't, but I would find it comical if they just didn't have a team next year.
