Bill O’Brien (HC Boston College, aka BillyBob O’Buttchin et al)

Defensive coordinator John Butler, strength and conditioning coach Craig Fitzgerald, wide receivers coach Stan Hixon, running backs coach Charles London and safeties coach Anthony Midget...special assistant to the head coach Jim Bernhardt and strength and conditioning coaches Dwight Galt IV and Sean Hayes are also leaving their posts.

Sounds like there were a whole lot of potentially punched-out windshields in Not-So-Happy-Valley.

Penn State's Administrative Dysfunction Pushed Coach Bill O'Brien Back To NFL
LG_460344223_BP.jpg

After days of dancing back and forth, with everyone from Penn State's fans to the trustees wondering if head football coach Bill O’Brien was going to stay or go, he finally ended the suspense: O'Brien announced he would be leaving State College after two seasons to coach the NFL's Houston Texans.

At first glance, it's an old story: An NFL offensive coordinator gets a chance to lead a legendary college program, then jumps back to the NFL when he's offered the opportunity to become a head coach. But after conducting hundreds of interviews inside Penn State's program to write my latest book Fourth and Long, and several articles, I can tell you it’s not that simple. Or, rather, it's almost that simple -- but it's not what you think.

Dig a little deeper, and you'll see O'Brien's decision -- made at the eleventh hour, after much hand-wringing -- was based as much on the appeal of the Texans' offer as it was the lack of leadership presented by Penn State.

Oh, good grief. No doubt the B/W board has gotten wind of this already. They must be ecstatic. Everything they've said about BOB's departure being the fault of Admin and NOT the cult is being confirmed in this (possibly biased?) article. Given how much I hate to see them achieve a victory in anything, this is disappointing. The author is a m*ch*g*n grad, so maybe his credibility can be discounted just a tad.

Rutgers is not hiring anybody any of us have ever heard of before, because they're both cheap and stupid. The only reason Kyle Flood (Who? Exactly!) is the head coach is because Mario Cristobal laughed his ass off at Rutgers' offer of $500k a year. Only last year after Rutgers stepped up to the Big Ten did they give a Flood an extension and a raise ... all the way up to a whopping $950k.

Good FBS assistants make more than that.

Plus, O'Brien leaving Penn St to work for Bob McNair and Rick Smith, then leaving that to work for Julie Hermann would be the most hilarious cycle of trying to escape a bat-shit crazy partner only to jump into the arms of someone crazier. The next logical step would be for BO'B to coach the Redskins two years after that.
