I don't get his play here at all.

  • Odds are he will not be in more demand than he was after this year.
  • Sanctions are going to take a toll on recruiting.
  • The questions around his future are going to hurt recruiting.
  • tsun is getting better, Urban Meyer is hitting his stride at OSU, Nebraska is the only close 3rd in the B1G recruiting wars.
  • He simply isn't going to have the talent or depth of talent to compete. 8-4 could very well be the high water mark.
  • There also likely won't be as many jobs open in the NFL next year.

To each his own but I'd rather sell a deteriorating asset sooner than later and I'd rather sell it into a high demand market than a lower demand market.

The odds of him driving up the BO'B brand value seem long to me but that is clearly what he's betting on.

Maybe he didn't get any of the NFL jobs he interviewed for.

Live Presser on BTN right now. Summary: O'Brien complaining about the media and what they are saying about him.

Obviously, he's taking a page right out of JoePed's victim handbook. How long before he's complaining about ref conspiracies or claiming championships that were stolen from him.

You coulda been a heartbreaker, Buttchin. You coulda made us proud. Instead, you're turning out to be a bum.

Absolutely. How wishy washy does this sound?

Q. Is coaching in the NFL one of your goals still?
BILL O?BRIEN: You know, it?s something that, like I said, it?s the highest in our profession it?s the highest level of football, and it?s a league that I have a ton of respect for. Like I?ve said, I?m the head football coach at Penn State, and I?m looking forward to being the head football coach at Penn State.

Still shocked that a guy who gives that kind of answer would return to PSU...unless he interviewed with, but had no offer from, NFL teams.

Penn State amends Bill O'Brien's contract

Bill O'Brien will make nearly a million dollars more in 2013 than he did in 2012. (USATSI)

Penn State announced on Thursday that Bill O'Brien's contract had been amended. And while the school wasn't exactly clear on what those amendments were, it appears O'Brien is getting quite a raise for the 2013 season.

?In the face of great adversity, Bill did a tremendous job with all facets of the Penn State football program,? said athletic director Dave Joyner in the release. ?This rightly recognizes Bill's outstanding achievements in guiding our student-athletes on and off the field.?

O'Brien's original contract had a base salary of $950,000 for the 2012 season that was scheduled to increase five percent each season. Instead, O'Brien will see his salary increase to $1,932,779 in 2013, so he has essentially received a million-dollar raise.
