Big upgrades -- please let me know (here) if stuff's broken.

I don't have anything blocking ********** that I know of. I actually have popups allowed for this site (which I hope is safe). Still no luck on repping without opening new window. I tried doing a ctrl=right click to no avail. The report post button takes me to a new screen, however. I cleared my cache again. I'm assuming that means deleting the temporary internet files in the tools menu. I'll try rebooting and see if that helps.

EDIT: Quick reply is going straight thru to the thread, but the page it was posted from takes several minutes to load if I don't click refresh. BTW, the asterisks are supposed to be j a v a s c r i p t , not profanity, weird.

I'm deeply confused. Do you have access to another computer to see if the behavior is repeating there?

The asterisks aren't about profanity, we had some hijacking trolls who managed to overflow subject lines to the point they could put redirects via jscript on the site. As a simple matter of protection, that word no longer gets parsed even as text.

Right now I don't know what to tell you, gadm. I'll do some searches on vB.com and vB.org tonight, but all the info I have right now is suggestive that this is some sort of local oddity with your browser. I know that doesn't help, and I certainly don't find it satisfying, or an answer of any sort -- but I just don't have much to work with right now.

Everything you're talking about is either AJAX or jscript driven (or both), so there's something to that in regards to how your browser is handling that. We ran into a lot of issues just like this during another major version upgrade for the forums, and most of those sorted themselves out over a few days. Not saying I'm going to just wait and see if that's the case here, but I am hopeful that one way or another this is a temporary issue.

Even if it is your browser choking on something, it could be that what it's choking on is a modification or bit of code that isn't standard or kosher, but I don't yet know where to start looking. It also may be that this just sorts itself out. Perhaps your ISP caches strangely? There are just a billion possible answers here, and no reason to lean towards one over the other.

It's not a dead issue though, I'll let you know if I find anything.

1) What browser are you using? I tried on IE7 and Firefox to reproduce that error and can't, so that info would really help.

2) Have you tried a different browser to make sure it's not just some screwed up setting? If you are using IE you might want to try resetting your internet options to default.

3) Do you have any weird firewall/antivirus/etc...? A lot of AV proggies will try and attach themselves to your browser, and cause some problems. I had a problem at work with our intranet page from AVG at one point.

Tried IE 6 from work too, worked perfectly...

Hrm... I have played around with some of the new changes, so far, I think a lot will have their novelty for a while then fade, unless I can get my sister and her friends to move from myspace to here, then they could really take off...

I am curious about a few things, like the "Social Groups" and the Image Gallerys, should I post those here? Or in another thread? Or should I give you a few days to get the kinks worked out, have a few drinks, then determine how long my ban will be for most likely abusing these features? :p

"Find Awarded Posts" is active in user profiles (statistics tab), and Quick Links text is fixed.

OCBF, you could start a lolcat/dragon/minicity social group. If you like danger. i don't know if those will take off in lieu of certain threads, or if they will be too cliquey and die off for lack of participants, but those seem like good experimental topics.

Goodnight, and God Bless Clarity.

I have my EPIC LOLZ CREW thank you very much!

Mostly, TBH, I want to know what the grounds are for images in the gallery, for example, we have had certain spammers that have assaulted us and farks have been created, would those be a no-no? Also, when you're uploading sports images, is it buckeye specific?

For example, I go to the Lakers game, I post an annual Lakers thread, I take a bunch of pictures, is uploading them here going to be acceptable if they are added to the thread? Or should we just keep them to Buckeye related stuff?

Realistically, I will probably just use photobucket still, but with the lightbox feature it got me wondering. Sometimes in threads from games it gets pretty beat down with a lot of images, so I wanted to inquire.

Edit: And no, for the record I am not asking about anything porn related, we all know that Imagevenue is the place for that :p

Okay, I updated my IE directly from the MS site. I think I was still on IE6 before. Sorry! I changed all of the security and privacy settings to default (I'm pretty sure my custom settings before were more laxed than the default), and I restarted. I'm not behind any crazy restricted firewall, it's my personal computer, running CA security suite, personal ISP thru Current Communications via ethernet cable. The only changes I've made since the BP updates were the ones recommended by you guys. Still no luck on the rep button, it does nothing even if I click on one of my posts. I'll try out some of the other things and update. Incedentally, on the updated IE, I can't find the place to delete cookies and temp files in the tools menu. If someone could direct me, I'd appreciate it. Also, I'm not sure how to check my jscript status. I did update it less than a month ago. Thanks for all the help guys and gal, and don't worry about it too much. It sound like it's a local problem on my end. I'll see if it clears itself over the next few days. It's really not a big deal, just not as smooth as before. I'll keep you posted on any changes. Is it Opening Day yet?

While there was a point where I was excited to upgrade for new features, these days the sole motivation is stability and staying on top of the security patches and upgrades.

I do think the social networking aspect has a lot of promise, but (like you) I'm just going to wait and see how some of the new features turn out.

I do really like being able to click on the edited button to compare changes, in a wiki-style format. Situational usefulness in regards to who said what when.

There's still more coming. Users are going to be able to start their own blogs within the social structure, we have a completely different front page structure coming that I am excited about -- but first all these little bugs need to be stomped out.

Honestly 99% of the upgrade headache these days is that we're dragging code and mods along that we've been using since 2004-2005. Hacks come and go, but there's residue each time that has to be cleaned up (or otherwise ignored), and I think that's most of the headache. It's a bit funny to me that I started almost exactly (a few minutes off) 24 hours ago, and aside from 5-6 hours sleep am still having to work on it, but it will be a happy thing when we're done.

The site is going to be quite quick when we're finished. I don't even have the new caching turned on and configured yet, and when I do, BP should be humming even on NLOID.

Well, while it sounds like a local problem, it was almost certainly caused by the changes over here. We'll figure it out one way or another.

When I use the search on the nav bar to try and view awarded posts, it tells me I have to wait so many seconds inbetween searches. I'll wait twenty seconds, and the same thing. It won't let me access the GPA's.

Do me a favor, go Click Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools, and then click Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) and see if the problem occurs with IE without addons.

Oh one more thing, to delete cookies/etc in IE7 go to tools -> Internet Options and in the browsing history button, click delete and it will bring up options on what to delete.
