Illinois and scUm might both be getting a little bit better this week because each of them has a #2 guard transfer becoming eligible. The one going to Illinois is Alex Legion who was very good coming out of high school. The one going up north is a transfer from Arizona who did not ring my bell.

Regarding the Power Rankings, I just cannot see putting us above Purdue right now because we are very similar to where they were a year ago and they have almost everyone back while we have some younger guys. I also think MSU will become better before the Big 10 season begins in a couple weeks. Wisconsin is the mystery team and Bernini went into hiding:wink2:

Illinois, Minnesota, and Michigan are really a crap shoot right now. PSU might give some teams problems this year as might Northwestern but I don't have much regard for Iowa or that Little League team from Bloomington:!

I forgot my rankings this week - I'll list my rankings here just for fun: 1. OSU 2. Michigan 3. Purdue 4. Michigan State 5. Illinois 6. Northwestern 7. Wisconsin 8. Minnesota 9. Iowa 10. PSU 11. Indiana

What's kind of disappointing is that PSU isn't a bad team and probably would make the NCAA tourney if they played in a weaker league (hint: I'm talking about you, SEC!), but they're likely to be 9th or 10th in the Big Ten and Ed DeChellis's job will be in jeopardy (which may or may not be a good thing for the Big Ten).

I don't know, maybe it's because I am looking ahead, but I just can't see putting Northwestern at #6 over Wisconsin and Minnesota. I know that the latter two teams have not really played very good competition but it is very close to Northwestern's schedule. I guess I am probably looking ahead also when I do not put Michigan up that high.

I'm feeling my way through this until the B10 starts and we can really see who is going to be good this year and who isn't.
Right now we have beat a couple good teams and so has Mich. and I figure anyone who has beat ranked teams will finish in the top of the B10.

Then I guess you'd really disagree with my putting them at #4.

Look at Ken Pomeroy's web site if you wonder why I did so. And watch them play. They bear little resemblence to Mildcats past. This year's edition can play.

I know this is probably another another trick question:)

Well, all I can say is that I really don't care about Pomeroy. Take a bunch of statistics and SOS and some other things and he thinks that Northwestern is the fourth best team in the Big 10. I would like to know how many dollars he would like to put on that or maybe even you would like to put down some vcash if you think that they are better than Ohio State, Purdue, MSU, Illinois, scUm (right now). I will admit that Northwestern is a better team this year than they have been in the past but no #4 for me and I am willing to back that up.

Still think MSU is the best team in the league right now...Well the team with the most talent...

We are up there tho...

Wisky and Purdue are not quite as good as some thought preseason and Michigan, PSU, Sota, PSU, NW, Illinois, Iowa are make for a very interesting middle of the road...

It truly is the Big Ten this year...

I agree with ya on MSU. I've had them at #2 the last 2 weeks. They've got the highest scoring offense in the Big Ten and Izzo at the helm. They're gonna dare you to outscore them this year. I'm surprised OSU has as big a lead as they do over Purdue and MSU in the power rankings, but then again, neither team has beaten a ranked opponent or a team garnering votes this year like OSU (Miami, ND, Butler) or TSUN (UCLA, Duke). And after all, this IS an OSU board.

Top to bottom, this is the most competitive league as I've ever seen in the Big Ten since I started consciously following college basketball (1989-1990 season).

I think the Big Ten is really strong this year. I'm a little disappointed in Purdue, and they are actually going to have to beat somebody good before they get my respect. So I hit them pretty hard in my rankings. Even though they have played nobody, I give Minnesota props for not losing yet. I also really like MSU and Illinois so far. And Northwestern, even though they probably will show their true colors down the road, have played really well and therefore got a boost from me.
