Big Ten Power Rankings

LitlBuck;1094486; said:
I pm them to cbf40 but if you want them here they are:

Purdue
Wisconsin
Indiana
MSU
Ohio State
Minnesota
Iowa
Michigan
PSU
Illinois
Northwestern

Exactly the same as mine this week, 1 through 11. I sure can't see putting a team with 17 losses ahead of tOSU because they just won at home to split the season series.

...I'm completely lost. IU answers with 2 big wins during all this turmoil. I feel like they should be number 1, at least this week. A couple weeks ago it looked like their stock was falling fast after barely beating Illinois and UCONN handling them at home. Now usually I would just move every team up one spot and slide Purdue down a couple, but they've beat Wisky twice, so they have to be ahead of them. MSU, who knows, they played well for about 10 minutes against IU and got spanked the last 30.

IU only lost to Wisconsin on a banked in three-pointer....but on the flip side, IU almost lost to Illinois if it weren't for their own banked in 3. I don't really think IU is that good. I still feel Purdue is better, but IU just beat them and so my next rankings will likely reflect that. I really wish those two teams would play twice a year, it's a good rivalry for the state and it's good to see Indiana (the state) basketball back at the college ranks (Butler, Notre Dame, IU, Purdue).

for now I guess my rankings would be: 1. IU 2. Purdue 3. Wisconsin 4. MSU 5. OSU (?)...and so on. Seems to change every day. If Purdue played at home again against the Hoosiers I would take them, so when I submit these later this week, I might actually keep Purdue in front.

Two point win after trailing by fourteen on your home floor to a Northwestern team who hasn't won a conference game in over a year. Not seeing the improvement.

Because my rankings went in after TONIGHT'S game right? :roll2:

Besides given where Iowa WAS at the beginning of the year (losing to teams like SouthEastern Louisiana for example) to beating Michigan State and Ohio State shows me something if nothing else.

I'm just glad Ohio State doesn't have to play Northworstern again. Northworstern is due for a Big Ten win at some point and it's been that type of year for the Bucks unfortunately.

Well tonight's narrow win vs NU did end their losing streak. When you put a team at #5 on the heels of 3 losses, with the most recent at home vs UM, people are going to call your poll into question, especially when it's a power ranking.
I do wonder how many of the people criticizing my rankings had Ohio State as their #1 to start this poll this year

Well considering they received one such vote, probably not too many.

True, although it would have been 5 games in a row had Ohio State played worth a crap the last time they played Iowa.....

Well considering they received one such vote, probably not too many.

hmmmmm.....I seem to remember them being up at #2 (nope one point below Wisconsin)....so I should modify that one....

Anyway, part of my poll is by total record, part of it is recent performance to include the last game played between the teams and who I would take if there was a re-match. I didn't realize it was supposed to be a poll where everyone was supposed to be in lock-step.

In fact normally in polls there are supposed to be outliers, that's why there is more than one person putting things in to be tabulated, but maybe that's just my theory.

And maybe I'll be obnoxious this week and put Ohio State at 10, just for the hell of it.

So you're arguing in favor of differing opinions, except when that pertains to your rankings. You put your poll out there for public review, and complain when we review it?

Where did I say I was excluding my rankings? I didn't.

If I'm going to rank them and then not defend my own rankings, what's the point?

Well, Northwestern does get to play Iowa in their own building in about a week. Could that be the scent of a Big 10 victory I smell? :p
