Big Ten Power Rankings

Why do you guys think this is happening? Since we have one the best coaches around then it must be team chemistry or stamina. Any other thoughts?

I was on Purdue before the season, not necessarily to win the conference as I thought that we would be up there along with IU and MSU having too much talent...

But they have the right pieces, and they have fallen into place so far...Hummel is such a solid player, does everything, kinda like Turner does for us, but he grew up faster than Turner and is shooting the ball better than Turner...

They also have guys that can create on their own like Moore...

Also they are playing 9 guys every night, so the guys aren't wearing down, and they have more options, so when one guy is struggling someone else picks up the slack...

While there are many reasons why Purdue seems to be getting more out of their talent, it may be something simple like they have guys who can shoot the basketball.

I watched the Purdue v MSU game and their guys seem to know, and more importantly accept, their roles.

Painter also seems conifident enough in the bench to give a lot of guys a lot of minutes, keeping more guys happy and hungry. I don't know why tOSU doesn't use Dallas or Hill or Wallace more (I trust the coaches to be playing the guys who give the Bucks the best chance of winning though) but by only playing six or seven guys versus eight or nine may add to fatigue and it may be keeping some of the Buckeyes a little too fat and happy (not pointing fingers, just speculating)

I hesitate to add this, because I do think the Buckeyes have some toughness, but I just don't see many Bucks with the "I will not be beaten" warrior mentality. I do see Hummel and a couple of the Boilers have that attitude.

The zone defense may also be contributing to this as I think a man-to-man makes guys more individually accountable and makes a guys play tougher and more aggressively. The zone has allowed the Bucks to do some nice things, but I think guys can play soft at times in the zone and this may carry over to the offensive end.

These are just some random thoughts, so don't just hate me cause I'm beautiful

I have not looked at Purdue's out of conference schedule and I can't remember who they have played when I really do not think that we are very far behind them. We really have had only one bad loss during the season and that was the Iowa game. I guess you can probably throw A&M was that was so early in the season.

I do not think that Purdue is that much better than us if in fact they really are. They play very hard man-to-man defense and as 40 mentioned they go 9 deep which certainly helps their defensive intensity throughout the game. Also, it seems like they have different guys that step up each game on offense. Humnel hasn't been there one consistent scorer throughout the season.

However, I just do not think that they are better than us or the other 3 top teams in the Big 10. I don't know, in a way, guy think they have gotten teams on off nights to a certain extent and at home they certainly get the benefit of the home crowd and the officials IMO

I agree, LitlBuck, the few games I've watched Purdue play, they seem to have just enough guys have good games in order for them to win. If they need 3 double figure scorers, then that is what they get. The Bucks have been more inconsistent in this regard, thus a few more losses. If the Bucks can start to get more consistent scoring, I think KK and Butler need to score in double figures every night, with Lighty or Turner taking turns putting up double figures, the Bucks can finish the season strong.

Another problem is the goose eggs that too many of the Bucks are putting up at the same time. Hunter either has a very good game, or is invisible, same with Diebs and Twigs as well as Lighty (at least on offense, and I think the zone tempers his aggressiveness at times)

They all need to play with a sense of urgency (specially the seniors) and leave it all on the floor.

My rankings this week.......

1. Purdon't - the bad part is they are playing their best right now but will be a 2nd round out in the Tournament.

2. Wisconsin - Not playing up to their capabilities right now either.

3. Indiana - They didn't look too distracted when they beat the crap out of Michigan State.

4. Michigan State - A team that clearly needs another scorer.

5. Iowa - The best of the rest. This team has improved GREATLY this year.

6. Minnesota - Tubby needs another year.

7. Ohio State - when they play decent offense, the defense isn't there. When they play decent defense their offense isn't there. This isn't a team, it's a group of individuals who aren't exactly playing well together.

8. Penn State - You're Penn State, you should be better at basketball.

9. scUM - Sure they beat Iowa and Ohio State, but unfortunately that's not saying much at this point.

10. Illinois - still in need of an impact guard....

11. Northworstern - might not win a Big Ten game this year.

Right now I have 4 teams getting in to the NCAAs and 2 in the NIT (Ohio State and Minny).....

I find these two hard to believe.

Iowa just can't beat this past week by the weasels and they really have no quality depth in the frontcourt. We would whack them at home or on a neutral court.

Tubby is a good coach but this year is this year. They just get beat by Illinois on their home court and Illinois lost to Penn State yesterday. Minnesota is a decent team play you have them ranked above us and we beat them at home and displayed our loss today we would beat them on a neutral court.

And right now there is no appreciable difference between Ohio State, Minnesota and a rapidly improving Iowa team. That's just the way it is.....

and what's this WE shit?
