Again, not sure why Illinois isn't after Frank Martin. I believe he is a minority, and I know he's a great coach who they can get if they pony up the dough (which they probably will do anyway). Can't believe Chris Collins is seriously mentioned in connection with Illinois - self-promotion to the media at its finest?

I don't think you will be seeing your beloved Frank Martin at Illinois for a reason in the story below plus I don't think he could recruit the types of guys that will qualify for admission at that fine University:lol:

Illinois struck out on landing the coaching candidate that many in the basketball world called a ?home run? option when Virginia Commonwealth coach Shaka Smart turned down a lucrative offer to replace Bruce Weber yesterday.

Athletic director Mike Thomas now will turn to his second-choice options, which include Alabama?s Anthony Grant and Florida State?s Leonard Hamilton, according to sources. Both are considered to have strong interest in the job.

Illinois also will consider assistants Johnny Dawkins of Stanford and Jeff Capel of Duke.

Thomas is believed to be pursuing high-profile candidates and black coaches, after two members of the board of trustees voted no this year on the contract of new football coach Tim Beckman, who is white.

Illinois is one of only three Big Ten schools never to have hired a black football or men?s basketball coach.

Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall, who is white, also is considered to be in the mix, according to a source.

Illinois offered Smart many enticements, sources said, including a salary that would be comparable with Michigan State?s Tom Izzo, the Big Ten?s top salary earner at more than $3 million a season.

Trevor Mbakwe given sixth year

Minnesota has reached this year's NIT semifinals, but the Golden Gophers took a major step toward the reaching the NCAA tournament in 2013 when the NCAA on Thursday granted 6-foot-8 forward Trevor Mbakwe a sixth year of eligibility.

The Minnesota staff confirmed to ESPN.com an earlier WCCO-TV report that Mbakwe received medical clearance from the NCAA to compete again next season.

The school announced the decision Friday.

Mbakwe has not decided if he will accept the sixth season. In a post on his Twitter account, he thanked everyone for their support and says he's "really happy about the NCAA decision to give me the option of having another year."

CSU coach Tim Miles reportedly a finalist for the 'Huskers job - touring the facilities today...

link

Tim Miles reportedly is on the University of Nebraska campus this morning, touring the school's basketball facilities with athletic director Tom Osborne.
Miles, CSU's men's basketball coach since 2007, is believed to be a finalist to become Nebraska's new coach. ESPN's Andy Katz reported Thursday that Nebraska was targeting Miles and Ohio coach John Groce, whose team faces North Carolina in an NCAA Tournament regional semifinal game tonight, as the top candidates to replace Doc Sadler, who was fired.
Brian Rosenthal, who covers the Nebraska basketball program for the Lincoln Star-Journal newspaper, reported on Twitter this morning that a ''reliable source'' told him that Miles was touring the school's new Hendricks practice facility with Osborne and Marc Boehm, Nebraska's executive associate athletic director. Federal Aviation Administration records show that a charter flight owned by M&M Aviation of Lincoln arrived early this morning at the Fort Collins-Loveland airport from Lincoln and left on a return flight to Lincoln about two hours later.

He's done a great job with the Rams in his tenure...
