Associated Press
No. 8 UCLA 69, Michigan 54 -- Josh Shipp scored 15 of his 19 points in the second half as No. 8 UCLA rallied past Michigan yesterday in Ann Arbor, Mich.

The Wolverines (4-8) led by eight points in the second half but couldn't keep up with UCLA (11-1) down the stretch.
Kevin Love had 17 points and 16 rebounds for UCLA, and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute had 12 points and 13 rebounds. UCLA finished the game with a 47-29 rebounding advantage.

Very surprising to see michigan hang with UCLA that well. They could end up much improved in the Big10 this season.
I think that the 1-3-1 that scum played bothered UCLA a little and I really don't think UCLA was really up for that game. Scum will improve over the season but I'm not sure about that "much". I read he can't see them finishing in the top 7 of the Big 10.

After Saturday, seeing Michigan State beat Texas like they did and watching how Ohio State played, I've grown really interested in the race for the conference title.

I'm looking forward to the game on the 15th against Michigan State. I wonder if Ohio State can pull out another big ten championship this season.

Me too... the young Bucks have two brutal away games in a row... 1/15 @MSU and 1/19 @Tennessee. If they can come away from those two games 1-1 I'll be very happy.

Those two games will be very tough for the Buckeyes. Michigan State is a very physical team and I do not think we match up with them very well especially when it comes to rebounding. Tennessee will want pay back and they have almost everybody returning from last year's team. It could be a brutal two-game stretch for the Bucks.

Michigan dismisses player

Jerret Smith has been dismissed from Michigan's team by coach John Beilein for not meeting the expectations for a student-athlete.
"After over a month of evaluation and discussion, our coaching staff has decided that Jerret has not made sufficient effort to meet those expectations," Beilein said in a statement.
Smith played in 65 games, with 13 starts, averaging 4.2 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists in three seasons.
K'Len Morris and Kendric Price left the Wolverines earlier this year for personal reasons. Morris decided to transfer, and Price remains at Michigan.

Oh Snap! Wisconsin defeats top 10 Texas on the road, without our leading scorer Trevon Hughes, on a near buzzer beater by Michael Flowers.

I honestly was under the impression that the game was on later, so I didn't even catch the upset. Biggest OOC road win by far during Bo Ryan's tenure, and one of the best all season period in college basketball. That was the same team who got drubbed by Duke on the road?T^&*(^&*^ Obviously they worked the nerve issues out.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Wisconsin's Michael Flowers hit a long 3-pointer with 2 seconds to play, then stole Texas' inbounds pass and tossed it high in the air to run out the clock, lifting the Badgers to a 67-66 upset of No. 9 Texas on Saturday. Texas led 66-64 after A.J. Abrams hit one of two free throws with 11 seconds left. His miss gave the Badgers a last chance and Flowers' long shot from the right wing stunned the home crowd. He then tipped Texas' inbounds pass near the baseline, grabbed it and threw it up with 1 second left as he tumbled into the stands.

BIG TEN ROUNDUP
Michigan State routs Green Bay

Sunday, December 30, 2007 3:46 AM

ASSOCIATED PRESS
No. 7 Michigan State 93, Green Bay 75 -- Tom Izzo loved Michigan State's pass-first offense. The defense was another story.

Raymar Morgan scored 24 points to lead Michigan State past Green Bay yesterday in East Lansing, Mich., when the Spartans had 31 assists but didn't impress their coach at the other end of the court.
"Instead of me talking today, just read the stats," Izzo said. "That says it all. I was incredibly impressed with our unselfishness. And we have so much work to do defensively to live up to any kind of billing we've received, it's a joke."

Big Ten men's basketball: Hard slate apt to burst bubbles in March

Tuesday, January 1, 2008 3:09 AM
By Bob Baptist

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Michigan State isn't expected to have any worries in two months when the NCAA Tournament selectors announce who's in and who's not.
Coach Tom Izzo worries about his Big Ten brethren who will be on the bubble, though, because more of them could be.
Reaching the magic number for an at-large invitation to the tournament could be more difficult for Big Ten teams this season, because they will play 18 conference games for the first time in 11 years. The schedule begins Wednesday night.
To add the two games, teams cut two nonconference games that, in the past, were scheduled as wins over lesser opponents.

Big Ten roundup: Morgan takes charge for Michigan State

Sunday, January 6, 2008 4:01 AM

No. 6 Michigan State 65, Minnesota 59 -- Raymar Morgan's performance was so dominant it even drew raves from his demanding coach.
Behind Morgan's career-high 31 points and 10 rebounds, Michigan State beat Minnesota last night in East Lansing, Mich., in the Big Ten opener for both teams.
"I told some people that Raymar had a chance to be one of the best forwards ever to play here," Michigan State coach Tom Izzo said of the versatile 6-foot-8 sophomore. "I know I've been tough on Raymar. We expect an awful lot from him. He reminds me of Morris (Peterson, the 2000 conference MVP)."

No. 25 Wisconsin 64, Iowa 51 -- Brian Butch scored 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field and Wisconsin continued its home dominance in the Big Ten.

Purdue 65, Michigan 58 -- Keaton Grant scored 17 points and Purdue held off Michigan's second-half comeback in West Lafayette, Ind., for its first win in a Big Ten opener in five years.
