Big Ten Basketball Thread

Last night the Illini let the Dook defense get to them...

Today against Okie St. not so much...

Illinois is going to be a solid team in the big ten this season...

Illinois is solid. But you have to recognize that Oklahoma State is a sub-standard, undisciplined team. They really don't have anyone who was established as any good prior to the season. They play a few freshmen and a couple JUCO's. Marquette did practically whatever they wanted on road to scoring 91 points, in a 30 point beating. Also gave up 82 in a loss to North Texas. I was thoroughly unimpressed when I saw the Cowboys. Illinois still isn't remotely threatening on the offensive end. They're going to have to beat you with their defense, IMO.

I am with you on all points, but Illinois is better than I expected...They are young and will only continue to get better, they have some length on the wing, and while Frazier is not a scorer that much he is a solid game manager at the point...And like you said they are a very good defense team...Their SG made the Maui all-tourney team...

I envision them being a tourney team as well...

Maybe I'm just unfairly comparing them to Illinois teams in the past, led by Deron Williams for example; and also the top 4 in the Big Ten. They're a nice little engine that can.

No. 8 Hoosiers mirror Gordon's struggles in Xavier's upset victory

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (AP) -- Eric Gordon's soaring act never got off the ground, and Indiana stayed down with him.
For that, Xavier can thank Stanley Burrell. And C.J. Anderson and B.J. Raymond.

Burrell contained Gordon, Anderson and Raymond scored 19 points apiece, and Xavier handed the eighth-ranked Hoosiers their first loss, beating them 80-65 in the final of the Chicago Invitational Challenge on Saturday night.

The IU loss to Xavier isn't surprising. Gordon is going to be a heck of a baller but I think IU is way overrated at this point. We'll find out if they are for real before the B10 season starts as they play Southern Illinois,Georgia Tech and Kentucky.

On espnU, Harvard is beating Michigan by 6 at halftime, and that's only after Michigan hit two 3s in the last minute to cut into the double-digit lead. Harvard's sold out crowd (of a couple thousand) seems to be enjoying the game, but I'm sure no one would enjoy a win more than Harvard's coach.

It's good to be a Buckeye.
