Does anyone else think it would have made a lot more sense for Oregon State and Washington State to just join the Mountain West? Does anyone think the PAC-12 brand has any value at all after all but their two lowest value members left? I'm of the opinion that the Mountain West with Oregon State and Washington State would have been a better conference than either of the PAC or MW as they are going to exist now.
The way I understand it is if the PAC dissolves before 2026 then the assets need to be split among all the teams (including the 10 that bolted). Otherwise the Beavs and Cougs control the war chest.

A few of us were talking at work and pretty much bitching about the state of CFB.

I live amongst the corn people now (Husker fans), and they were (rightfully) bemoaning how in today's CFB world, programs that lack the NIL war chests like those of pinnacle programs like tOSU, Alabama, Georgia, Texas leaves almost zero chance to compete nationally for 95% of programs out there. Yes, the CFP has expanded, but how many programs really stand a chance year-to-year? Myself, even as a fan of one of the select few programs that really have the cache to put together a roster to realistically compete for a NC most years, still hate what it's done to the sport as a whole. It's killing the intrigue.

Then there's the seismic shifts that have happened with all of this stupid realignment. You basically have 2 real conferences now, the B1G and the SEC. The ACC is dying a slow death, and the Big-12/Pac-12 have been essentially wiped from the face of the earth...they're now scrambling to add third-rate programs just to stay alive. Great rivalries have been killed. Traditions are dying. Remember when a matchup like tOSU-USC in the regular season would be a huge event? Texas-Alabama? Meh, they play each other regularly. They're just another game now. Bowl games are dead. It's the 12 teams in the playoffs. Who gives a shit about all the losers that didn't make it? Didn't make the playoff? If you're a player in one of those games, why play? And with that, who gives a shit about the #13 team playing the #16 team in the Holiday Bowl?

Further, now there's the transfer portal and all that comes with that. Who you recruit year-to-year doesn't mean a whole hell of a lot because even if you do land some exciting 5* talent, if he's not on the field as a Freshman, good chance he's gone the next spring. Part of the beauty of CFB was the perceived loyalty to your school and getting to watch kids that you followed since they committed develop and get their shot after working their butts off for it. Yeah, there's still a few of those types of kids, but they're becoming more and more rare. Part of the charm of CFB was watching a roster full of in state kids play for their home state program. Now, so many of those kids either go elsewhere right off the bat to the biggest NIL offer, or they bail after a year or two for playing time in some other state or region. Many, if not most of the kids are mercenaries...certainly the kids on the rosters of schools like Bama, Georgia, tOSU, Texas. The pride is dead.

I'm also not a fan of the playoff expansion. It's eroding the importance of the regular season. Part of the charm of CFB was that every single game meant something. Now, it's not a whole lot different than the NFL (in way too many ways).

Then there's the bullshit those cheating scumbags up north pulled the last 3 years. Now, they may still get there comeuppance, but they basically made the last three seasons pointless with their bullshit.

I know I'm in "GET OFF MY LAWN" territory, but my fanaticism for CFB has been slowly dying for a few years now, and I think it's pretty close to dead at this point. I watch a tiny fraction of the amount of CFB that I used to.

Anyway, that's my rant.

Fuckin-A. I’m watching less and less football each year.

Yep. I used to be pretty much glued to the TV on Saturdays from Noon until I fell asleep at night. Now, I still plan my day around the Bucks game, but if anything else I have a small TV with multiview ( Youtube TV) on to occasionally catch some scores while I do something else.

If there were forums around when the schollie limits were introduced I'd imagine a lot of posts just like these. Old people complaining about change.

The teams with the NIL war chests were the only ones that had a chance at a championship since 19 fuckin 50 with very few exceptions. In fact I'd bet we'll have more unlikely champions in the next decade as the previous 3 combined.

No one gave a fuck about the Cheezit bowl before the playoff. The whole reason playing USC in the regular season was so cool was because 80% of the games each year were shit. Idc what they do just give me less Akrons and more Oregons.

One interest thing about NIL is that it only takes one grad who hits it right and makes a billion. If they are in to football they can single handedly bring any program to prominence.

The playing field has never been level. I would submit that OSUs success was originally built on Ohio being a talent rich state with no other in state school in a major conference. That success has led to an entire state of fans so invested in the program that it is self sustaining.

But if Elon suddenly decided the most important thing in his world was Akron football he could turn the landscape upside down in two or three years.

As I was reading the first couple of paragraphs, I was planning on quoting your post and asking if there was some kid on your lawn. But you were aware enough to beat me to it.

Greg Sankey just dropped a massive, peanut-studded steamer on Gordon Gee and his super league scam. I would assume that's our position too, and we're just happy to let the SEC do the dirty work.

"I've studied it a little bit and I come back to, I don't want to dumb down the Southeastern Conference to be a part of some super league notion with 70 teams that some people speculate would happen," Sankey said on the "Triple Option podcast," hosted by Urban Meyer and Mark Ingram. "They want to be us and that's on them to figure it out, not on me to bring myself back to earth."

That last sentence sums up the poverty program mentality perfectly. They didn't make the investments a hundred years ago and then spend the next hundred building CFB into what it became. They just want a seat at the table we built and a pot of the gold that we've created. Fuck 'em.
