I vote Texas, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Missouri, Rutgers, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, UConn and Boston College.

After four years the bottom six teams in overall athletics performance and revenue production (including my proprietary "Cheerleader Hotness Scale" (with such factors as jumping, public intoxication, boobs, and smile)) get relegated to the new MAC superleague. It will be a relegation system. The top two MAC teams move up to our conference. From that point on, every four years there is a new relegation, two teams at a time. We will then maintain a sixteen team league-- with incentives.

So under this proposal, with scUM in the Super MAC would they still be considered a rival?

I'm not going to offer any more guesses. What I will throw out is a dream conference based on the primary criterion being TV market, secondary being athletic excellence, and the veto power resting in academics. Added teams:

Texas
Nebraska
Florida
North Carolina
University of Virginia

Delany has acknowledged without prompting that demographics are shifting to the Sunbelt, clearly suggesting that he's looking southward for new members for the B11. These are all southward, and UVa should do the job as regards the Washington DC area TV market. It misses NYC, but does anyone seriously think matchups in this new conference wouldn't be a huge TV draw in the Big Apple?

Athletic Directors are NOT the ones who have a role in this process. It's the school Presidents, Board of Regents, and quite possibly other admin positions.
Bingo. This is why Texas is far from being a done (negative) deal. Their faculty would love to see it happen. The biggest issue IMO is whether they could migrate and leave aTm behind - probably not politically feasible, and I don't know that Delany is willing to have the ugly fat chick in the back seat when he's courting the hot blonde.

A&M is no longer "Sing Sing on the Brazos." They have one of the best Ag/Vet schools in the US and like it or not, alfalfa and animal husbandry is big business. They will soon have a 100K stadium, and though their grads are obnoxious even to other Texans, they are prosperous ans supportive of the school. The bigger problem is what to do about the sisty uglers, T Tech and Baylor and the Probation Queen, Oklahoma, a school better suited to the low end of the SEC.

No they won't.

Will somebody in the Penn State hierarchy please sit JoePa down and tell him to shut his mouth because he has ZERO say in this matter. No football coach is going to influence this decision much less a senile, pants crapping old man from the school that's only been in the conference for 17 years.

Give me Texas and/or Notre Dame and I don't give a fuck about who else is added. For the sake of football, it would be cool to see Nebraska or TAMU join. I really think Mizzou is a buzzkill. For the sake of basketball, I'd like to see Syracuse.
It would be interesting to see someone set up a Linear Goal Programming model for this. I guarantee the Big Ten staff has/is.

If we did manage the greatest coup ever and snagged ND, Nebraska, TAMU and Texas (along with some other random team - a Syracuse or other)...How competitive would that make our football programs vs. the SEC?
I would assume Oklahoma would be headed to the SEC, so it would basically come down to how ND, Neb, A&M and the 5th helped our conference.

We'd need Michigan to get things going again with a new coach. There's also the question of how great UF will be now that Bama is rolling and Tebow is gone. They will continue to be strong, but will they be elite?

U-M < UF
Osu < Bama (OSU can fix that this year)
Psu > LSU
Iow = Aub
Neb > Tenn
N-D = UGA
Wis > Ole Miss
Nor ? Ark (Nor is a better team on avg, not as talented)
Ill = S Car
MSU > Vandy
Pur = Miss St
Ind = Kentucky

Tex > OU
ATM ? ____
___ ? _____

I cannot answer your question. Either you failed to notice the fact, or I will have to inform you now, that I know very little about which I am talking and am somewhat close to being insane.

I will say this: Count Chocula.

Adding Tex, ATM, ND, Neb & Syracuse (if NYC is required) would give you:

Bold = new teams

AP Bball Final Polls
2010 - #4, 5, 10, 12, 16, 23, 28
2009 - #8, 13, 17, 28, 29
2008 - #6, 7, 15, 18, 20 *
2007 - #1, 6, 9, 11, 17
2006 - #6, 8, 13, 15, 21
2005 - #1, 11, 15, 20
2004 - #10, 12, 13, 20
2003 - #5, 11, 13, 21, 22
2002 - #13, 14
2001 - #3, 4, 18, 19, 20, 24, 25

* - other votes received was only listed for 2009 & 2010

Basketball rankings in final poll (last 10 years, going backwards from 2010):

Tex- NR, NR, 07, 11, 09, NR, 12, 05, NR, 18
a&m- 23, NR, NR, 09, NR, NR, NR, NR, NR, NR
Syr - 04, 13, NR, NR, 21, 11, 20, 13, NR, 17
ND - NR, NR, 15, 17, NR, NR, NR, 22, NR, 19
Neb - never ranked in final AP bball poll

Others:
Miss- NR, 09, NR, NR, NR, NR, NR, 24, NR, NR
Pitt - 18, 04, 17, 12, 16, NR, 09, 04, 09, NR
B.C - NR, NR, NR, NR, 07, 14, 25, NR, NR, 07

Contrast those numbers with the best big ten bballers:

Msu- 13, 08, 18, NR, NR, 15, NR, NR, NR, 03
Osu- 05, NR, NR, 01, 06, NR, NR, NR, 14, 24
Pur- 10, 17, 20, NR, NR, NR, NR, NR, NR, NR
ILL- NR, NR, NR, NR, NR, NR, 13, 11, 13, 04

Obviously polls don't tell the whole picture, since Sparty went on to great success despite their rankings. This time range also cuts off some great b10 teams when Y2K was looming.

Sorry to b silly, btw, but I have read every post in this thread, hundreds of articles (probably, really), and have had countless discussions with other college football fans where I live, mostly fans of the ACC with a few Big East people. Through all this I've learned that we know nothing, and I have seen that the conjecture has gone way beyond where it needs to be. Perhaps I'm just pissed at being obsessed, but at some point we need to just wait and see what happens. Or rather I do, spent. Of course everyone may and should do what entertains their thoughts.
