I have seen that the conjecture has gone way beyond where it needs to be.
Hi, I'm the offseason. Have we not spent time together before?
Perhaps I'm just pissed at being obsessed, but at some point we need to just wait and see what happens.
What else are we going to talk about? It's an interesting topic, especially compared with the less than thrilling position battles for backup spots on the football squad, none of which have any meaningful updates all summer long unless someone gets hurt or in trouble.

I saw someone in this thread say something about having 8, 9-team conferences (with each playing a round-robin) and have all eight conference winners compete in a playoff. I think that would be perfect but what would you guys think of a conference lineup like this:

Atlantic Coast Conference
Clemson
Duke
Florida State
Georgia Tech
Maryland
NC State
North Carolina
Virginia
Wake Forest

Big Nine Conference (Formerly Big Ten)
Illinois
Indiana
Iowa
Michigan
Michigan State
Minnesota
Northwestern
Ohio State
Wisconsin

Big East Conference
Boston College
Connecticut
Miami FL
Pittsburgh
Rutgers
South Florida
Syracuse
Virginia Tech
West Virginia

Midwestern Conference
Cincinnati
Iowa State
Kansas
Kansas State
Missouri
Nebraska
Notre Dame
Penn State
Purdue

Mountain West Conference
Arizona
Arizona State
Boise State
BYU
Colorado
Nevada
TCU
Texas Tech
Utah

Pacific 9 Conference (Formerly Pac-10)
California
Fresno State
Oregon
Oregon State
Stanford
UCLA
USC
Washington
Washington State

Southeastern Conference
Alabama
Auburn
Florida
Georgia
Kentucky
Louisville
South Carolina
Tennessee
Vanderbilt

Southwest Conference
Arkansas
Baylor
LSU
Mississippi
Mississippi State
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Texas
Texas A&M

I think you missed something here. We're (and by "we" I mean the Big Ten Conference) talking expansion, not contraction.

You must be thinking about the NHL or Major League Baseball.

I understand that, I just saw the idea posted earlier, and I don't think contraction in the situation that I proposed would be a bad thing at all.

 UGA is a more talented team with more recent wins but I think they are similar in program prestige.

Add having to defend them here to the long list of reasons why I despise ND but I don't think UGA is anywhere near ND in terms of program prestige no matter how hard of times they have fallen on.

UGA is closer to Wisconsin and MSU than they are to ND.

I'm going to go drink an orange cream margarita and throw up now.

I was looking at the big 16 vs the SEC (which is a year off with Brian Kelly instead of The Schematic Advantage), though I'm probably selling ND short on prestige.

UGA has been superior at winning ball-games but lately they've merely been another good SEC team. If UGA starts 9-0, they're talked about. If ND starts out 6-0, they're worshiped by the media.

Jax, I feel your pain. The thought of a bowl game in which I would be compelled to "cheer, cheer for old Notre Dame" for the good of the conference causes my stomach to churn. My only hope is that by bringing them into the Big 10 the Irish will face a diminished number of January games.

Just a suggestion, but you wouldn't have to submit to that compulsion. Like you, like most, I almost always pull for BigTen teams in non-conference games. Even Michigan. But that's where the "almost" comes in. Despite wanting to see BigTen teams win, I can't help pulling for Michigan's opponent in non-conference games from time to time - for example App State or Toledo in the regular season, or Texas in the '05 Rose Bowl. It'd be the same for me if Notre Dame were in the conference, and there's no reason why it couldn't for you. Just a thought to allay your fears of losing your righteous contempt for old Notre Dame.

Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe tells Jim Delany to get off his lawn, and warns the kids that he'll have none of that crazy talk about running away, or they won't be welcome back to the house no more.

Beebe: Our schedule, not anyone else's - Big 12 Blog - ESPN

Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe left a few raised eyebrows in the wake of his comments about his plan for the conference's spring meetings next week.

I think we need to have a very frank conversation about where we're going and who's going to be on the plane when we take off," Beebe told a Kansas City radio station.
But he clarifies his previous statements in his newest interview, an extensive Q&A with the Columbia Tribune.

"I said I want to present to the board the question of how do we get to a place where we determine who's on the plane and who's off. I want there to be a time -- on our time schedule, not any other conference or entity's time schedule -- where we say, OK, here's who's committed to this conference, and we're going forward and we're going to continue to prepare for our negotiations with television next spring," Beebe said. "Which looks like it's going to be a highly profitable situation for us, whether we collaborate with the Pac-10 or do it on our own."

That's quite a bit different. But finding a way to get to that point could be the conference's defining period -- and task.

The chances of Beebe receiving a definite answer from schools like Nebraska, Missouri and Colorado (and even, perhaps, Texas) seem low if the Big Ten hasn't decided who gets the boarding passes on its plane. (Analogy extension! Huzzah!) Figuring out a way to make that happen only makes me glad I'm not in Beebe's shoes.

Cont'd ...

I expect the "you're either with us or against us" attitude to begin manifesting for the Big XII. It seems pointless for the Big East, which would be laughed at. Nebraska and Missouri won't be lured in to that type of commitment, but Texas could be I think along with Colorado.

think of conferences as women and re-alignment as marriage. The SEC is hot, but she's also crazy, and likely to let herself go once you've tied the knot. She'll probably blame you for what she lacks in life, and cheat on you with the guy next door while scheming to come away with the money and the dog. The Pac-10 is a trophy wife. She's out to be seen, and you are just a prop to make the photo more marketable. She eats organic but can't cook, has a flat tummy but bought her boobs, and doesn't want to talk or go to bed unless it's for publicity, or to fix her ego from bad publicity. The Big Televen isn't so hot. She's cute but sort of plain. Still, she has her own career, she likes to cook, and you get the impression she'd appreciate you a hell of a lot more than the pretty bitches. However, you also get the feeling she's still in love with a Catholic guy that always looked the other way growing up, and she'll always compare you to him. What to do?
Perhaps the best breakdown yet.

p.s. There sure are a lot of Texans on that board that didn't get Woody's memo.

Classic bitter and delusional bearkitten letter to The Dispatch. Do yourself the favor and read all the way through the comments. Bearkitty absolutely gets schooled, then he shows up to try and defend himself and gets schooled some more.

Smackdown, go ahead and give it to me.

From comments:

Cincinnati would be a better choice than most of the teams touted. I think it would be great to have an intrastate rival like Cincy. I think the ones who don't want an in-state team just want to bring in out of state money.

Don't you have to win more than twice every 120 years for it to be considered a real rivalry?

There is a reason that UC is rated a tier 3 school, and you seem to be intent on demonstrating it.
