Also, Dick Ebersol--who was a committed Notre Dame cultist--is gone. What's a more valuable property to the MBAs running the show now? Seven Notre Dame games or 12 marquee BIG games?

Even with Notre Dame currently nationally relevant, everything I've seen is that Ohio State and tsun each turn on more TV sets and have bigger fan bases. What happens if the domers go in the toilet for 5 years, as they're prone to do? If Ohio State does, there will still be other BIG schools that are nationally relevant and fighting for the playoffs.

If I'm on the NBC team, and I'm jeopardizing the B1G deal to give the domers special treatment, I should be shitcammed.
Fun thing on ND forums and twitter is they see nbc going 350 for 13 big ten games. 27 mil per game. So they are saying ND should get 7*27 so about $190. The second or third best big ten game is better than the ND game for all but about 2 games per year. They will probably get the 75 they were looking for.

Conference realignment: Notre Dame AD Jack Swarbrick outlines criteria for joining a league

Ever since news broke that USC and UCLA would eventually be joining the Big Ten — sparking an entirely new wave of conference realignment talks — all eyes have been on Notre Dame. As the largest independent school on the market, most think Notre Dame is a prime target for any conference looking to add to its ranks. During a live chat with university vice president Lou Nanni on Wednesday, Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick provided a peak at the criteria a conference would need to fulfill for Notre Dame to join.

“We’ve talked about them a fair amount,” Swarbrick said. “One, is do we have a committed broadcast partner, who not only will carry all our games — all our home games — nationally, but will compensate us for our media rights in way that allows us to be competitive? So it starts with the question of media partner. Secondly, is our access to the College Football Playoff. Do we, as an independent, retain adequate access? I think we’ve proved conclusively in the past eight years that we’ve had it. Both those things will play out over time. I can’t predict how much time.”

Swarbrick also noted that the playoff question may be answered soon, and said that potential scheduling will also play a factor in any consideration.

“I think the CFP will be resolved as to what’s next within that timeframe,” Swarbrick said. “It’s possible that the media situation could be. But the flip side of that is our contract runs through the 2025 season. So hard to say. But those are the first two things. Third, is a good home for our Olympic sports, where they can compete for national championships. But also have schedules that sort of make sense for that. And the ACC has been a great partner for us in that regard.

“I’d like to make progress on the schedule front. It’s so hard for our kids to travel the way they do. I think we’ve talked about it before, but when you’re going to Tallahassee, and you start with a bus trip to Midway, and then you connect once along the way before you get there, and then you’re on a bus trying to get to campus, it’s probably 18, 16 hours that you’ve been involved in traveling. That’s tough to be a pre-med major, or a finance major and do that. So we’re always looking for ways to make the scheduling easier. But it’s media, it’s CFP and it’s our Olympic sports.”

So, in other words, "We're looking for a conference that can provide what we need. One that can do a lot of nice things for us without assuming they're equal and not sniffing around looking into where we get our money. We'll pick which of their teams we want to play. We expect to be treated as royalty, oh, and we expect them to do our laundry. So if your conference can offer us all that plus a full share of your money, give us a call, and we'll ask our alums if they think it's a good deal for us."

Am I wrong, or did he say everything but "Kiss our ring!"?

What's funny is that their fans expect to be on the same footing as the Big Ten with all of their games. Ain't NOBODY paying them $27 million a game to broadcast them vs Marshall. Or UNLV. Or Boston College. Or North Carolina. Or Cal. Or Stanford. Not even close. GTFO with that shit

And when they have that one home game a year against a decent opponent (if they even have one) in the future, it ain't gonna be on primetime on their own broadcast partner's network. Because that slot will be set for the Big Ten as the game of the week

I hope that shit eats at them and gives them a sense how not special they are, deep down

Respectful disagreement (because Dryden is a smart poster) and my counterpoint.

The most inherently tribal and vocal (and in some cases, violent) fans in the US are NFL football fans.
They do not give a shit if their games are on CBS or Fox. They don't care if their teams play on ESPN for Sunday Night, ABC for Monday night or NFL Network for Thursday night.

They give weighted preference to Prime Time games (naturally), but other than that the network is meaningless.

I think this is how most college football fans will feel in 2-3 years.
You are underestimating how B1G fans feel ESPN has been shitting on them for 20 years.

This is a Gus Johnson/Joel Klatt Stan forum now.

I can think of three conferences that might sign on for that load of bull shit: What's left of the Big 12, What's left of the Pac 12, and what will soon be left of the ACC. If the Big 10 buys into that bull shit I'll become an NFL fan.
Essentially, ND wants to keep football independent AND get paid for allowing a conference to list them as a member. Good luck with that.

They don't have a chance of sniffing a championship in the Big Ten without some significant improvement. Will that happen under Freeman? Don't know. They're sitting on a pair of deuces, king high, and betting like they have a full house.

I posted the list of their "criteria" that they took to Rosemont. It came from someone in a MWC athletic department. It was fucking ridiculous.

No Notre Dame home games on the BTN.
They would pick their pod which would include Michigan, MSU and Purdue and would NOT include Ohio State
They'd get a game in California every year (big advantage in recruiting against Ohio State or tsun)
They would finish the season alternating between playing USC in LA and Michigan in South Bend

Not only was it a list of special treatment that would fuel the notion that they were superior to every other school in the conference, but they were clearly and strategically trying to elbow Ohio State and The Game aside in favor of something that would feature Notre Dame. Gordon Gee was RIGHT.

And what's with the travel bullshit. Is he hinting that, because they're located in the middle of nowhere without an airport, that there will be an uneven balance of Olympic sports having to come to them?

I'm surprised they don't demand Chicago build an airport in Merrillville so they can have a shitty mall to go to and cut their travel time while they're at it.

We really need to tell them to shove their hockey program up their ass.

And their basketball team and their fencing team and their debate team. I know none of those teams are in the Big Ten, but they can still shove them up their ass.
Supposedly Rudy was the last one to be carried off the field in that stupid stadium. How great would it be if, next year, Ohio State does the same thing? They put some walk on in the game and they carry him off the field or something?
