If Notre

I continue to believe that Notre Dame will agree to join the conference before or concurrently with the new TV deal. It doesn't make sense to do the TV deal then change it in a year. Especially if NBC is getting part of the B1G.

If Notre Dame wants to share its NBC money with members on an even basis in exchange for an equal share of B1g money, I'm OK with it, but if they intend to play "some pigs are more equal than others" fuck 'em.

Nope. They shouldn't have their own separate NBC package of games (which of course precludes their holy asses being on the BTN which is supposedly one of their demands). Nothing that sets them apart at all from any other B1G school. They are one of the group, or they're not part of the fucking group. Otherwise, let them hold onto their precious independence and see where that takes them.

Which games are aired where is determined by the networks. ND being a big brand will only play a couple of games a year on the btn. Similar to OSU and ttun. Expect the biannual match with Rutgers to be on the btn. Those couple of games per year on the btn is what will get the hardcore domer fan base to get BTN. Which is what makes money. They would be doing this more the money, right? I’m so disgusted at that shit university getting big ten cash.

Part of their demands is that none of their home games will EVER be broadcast on BTN. Again, it creates this perception (hell, reality!) of separation and superiority to all other B1G programs (including OSU, tsun, Wiscy and pedsters), and don't think they won't use it for recruiting. Plus, given their track record, once you show them any crack in the door of special treatment, they will never, ever stop demanding more. Remember when they offered their Big East "partner" Rutgers a series? Two games in South Bend, and Rutgers' home game had to be at the Meadowlands. They are scum, and if the B1G gives them any special treatment, it will deserve everything coming its way.

I don't think that matters as much if NBC is also a participant in the B1G media deal, as I have heard tossed around. Top tier games will be on FOX, and NBC will get any Notre Dame home games that aren't on FOX, which will also help any of the lower tier B1G teams by giving them a national audience as well. It's still likely that ND will get at least 1 away game on BTN, but BTN usually only shows us playing against Akron or Indiana, when Indiana sucks, so it isn't like Us, scUM or the Pedsters will have all our games on BTN, while ND is shown nationally on NBC/FOX.

Also, there will still be a lot of ND specific stuff on BTN, like ND football classic, etc., which will help see the channel and give it more value.

When the B1G added corn, we were all surprised. They weren't even on the list of teams we were considering.
When the B1G landed the LA schools, how much advance notice did we have?
Even when the SEC added major teams, there was precious little advance notice.

The people making these deals seem to have all had very good incentives to keep their mouths shut every time in the past. Almost all of the advance information in the past turned out to have been speculation by random-message-board-guy. I see no reason to believe that this time is any different. I don't think any of the reports about who is being offered what or who is asking for what are remotely credible. I am willing to change my mind, but only when I see a good reason to do so.

Until that time comes; screw the Irish.
After that time comes; screw the Irish.

So my nephew is one of those guys who understands board games really well. He's figuring out his strategy long before I've even figured out what I'm supposed to do when it's my turn. Part of that is that I'm a doofus. But I think another part is that he's already understood the goal and what his strategy is. So we were playing a classic game called Settlers of Cataan (or maybe it's now just called Settlers or maybe just Cataan). But it had been a while since I'd played. For those of you who don't know, it has a Monopoly aspect in that you can trade with anyone when it's your turn. And maybe at any time. But there's no limit to what your trade is. Four of this resource for one of another. Two for one. Five for one. Whatever. In the game we played, I would make it a point to make worse trades with other players (or even with the "bank") than the offer he was making with me, because I knew that he wouldn't offer the trade if it doesn't help him. And if it helps him, it can't be good for me. By the way, I forget who won, but it wasn't him. Ha!

My point is that if the Big Ten concedes that Notre Dame home games that are not on Fox get to be on NBC, and never on BTN, it may not seem so bad. But Notre Dame will not let go of their "Independent" way of thinking. It will always be them, and the rest of the Big Ten teams. You can take a turd out of a toilet and put it in the fancy punch bowl. But it's still a turd - it's just in a fancy punch bowl. Notre Dame will continue to act in Notre Dame's best interest. The Big Ten better think long and hard before they let Notre Dame have any different treatment, even if it seems that it would help Rutgers or Indiana or Minnesota. Let them continue to have the #3 best television contract in the state of Indiana, before bring them into the conference.

Does it change your calculation if the same deal also means that Ohio State also has all home games televised on FOX or NBC?

Yeah, ND's demands aren't what matters. WHat matters is what they actually get at the end of the day. I am sure they are also making crazy demands on the ACC. At the end of the day, ND will do what's best for ND, and I think most people now realize that is to join the B1G as a normal member.
