I shouldn’t care this much but I feel crushed for my favorite sport.

Only positive is that Ryan Day and the Bucks should be expected to make this tournament damn near every year. Recruiting at a top 3 level, so winning the conference or the next 6 at large spots seems reasonable to expect. Titles will still be really tough.

Yeah, I feel like 2018 was the last year of CFB as I most liked it. Every game mattered, beat tsun, go to the Rose Bowl, win it and look back with nothing but fond memories.

The more you emphasize the playoff the more you diminish the regular season. There is now way to change that basic calculous. To some degree or another, it's going to happen.

This I feel is a case of where more is not better

Yea we get more games. But a good majority of the CFP playoff games in a 4 team playoff already have been blowouts. Seems like we are just tacking on more blowouts on the way to a conclusion that would usually be reached with a 4 team playoff.

I like the idea of hosting a playoff game. Everyone bitches about southern teams not having to play in northern weather conditions and if this goes through it could be a reality. #9 Florida at #8 Wisconsin when the weather is brutal would be a sight to behold.

Why in the F should #5 through #8 get a home game when #1 to #4 may get screwed with their first game against UGA in Atlanta?

I would watch the shit out of Florida plating in Nippert just to see how crazy it will get with Florida-Man and Juggalo. Other than that, fuck 12 teams.

Yeah, I’m seeing a lot of “we get more ranked football games!!” not realizing they will soon be caring less and less for the other 8-10 weeks of the season.

Short sighted, top heavy instead of enjoying the ride that is a college football season. It’ll just turn into, “eh I’ll watch when the games matter” for most casuals.

Congrats, you’re pro hockey now.

More blowouts, and more chances for key players on legit contenders to get injured in a 56-27 rout of some mid-major that doesn't belong.

Would not be shocked at all at times to see the better seeds in the 1st round sit some starters because they are still so much better than the opponent.

A&M And OU woulda been the 5/6 seeds in 2020. Think they need 100% man power for the whole game to beat 12 Costal Carolina and 11 Indiana (with a backup QB)?

I'm on record for not wanting expansion. But here's the argument that I've heard in favor of more teams in the playoff: "MORE teams get into the playoffs so MORE fans are interested in the game, so MORE money comes in for the sport." Yeah, maybe. I think I'd rather have a situation where if Ohio State beats Oklahoma, it's HUGE for their playoff hopes. A loss to Oklahoma, and you know you're on thin ice. Those games in 2016 and 2017 meant so much for Ohio State and Oklahoma. Or 2016 Ohio State - Michigan.. Imagine not caring if JT picks up that first down. (Also, F that replay official for not saying that the call on the field was confirmed. "The play stands as called." F you, puss-bag.) I mean, Ohio State loses and they fall down to 6? 8? I don't remember the rankings in there, but if Ohio State is #8, then they're in as long as at least 2 teams in front are conference winners. And I'm sure 2 teams in front were conference winners. That game meant so much and it would have been taken away if it didn't mean anything. Yeah, I know it's still Ohio State-Michigan, and that'll always mean something to me.

Anyway, I'm rambling.

Wonder if they are going to use the same super secret, arbitrary and opaque ranking process they use now to determine who gets to host and who has to travel?

"We just felt that the 6 SEC teams were better than the rest of the field because of their body of work against each other..."

How else will aTm get the #5 seed after losing to their only ranked opponents who happen to be #1 through #4?

Oh ffs, didn’t realize it would be THIS ruined THIS quickly. F off with this recommendation.

College Football Playoff to consider proposal for expansion to 12-team format

Under the proposal for a 12-team format, the four highest-ranked conference champions would be seeded 1-4 and receive a first-round bye. Teams 5-12 would play each other in the first round on the home field of the higher-ranked team. The quarterfinals and semifinals would be played in bowl games, and the national championship game would remain at a neutral site.

The first-round games would take place on campus sometime during the two-week period following conference championship games. The quarterfinals would be played on Jan. 1 -- or Jan. 2 when New Year's Day falls on a Sunday -- and on an adjacent day.

Under this proposal, Notre Dame and other independents would not be eligible for a bye because they cannot win a conference title.
.
.
.
While the dates of the semifinal games and championship game aren't determined, the report said the semifinals likely would not be played as a doubleheader. The CFP bracket would follow the selection committee's rankings, with no changes to avoid rematches of teams that might have played during the regular season or are from the same conference.

The working group didn't include which bowls might be a part of the CFP in the future, but it did recommend that if "traditional bowls" host games, teams would be assigned to those bowls for quarterfinal games with the priority going to the higher-seeded team.

"We've got to have a more meaningful postseason for college football, and this proposal is a bold, positive step in that direction," one Power 5 athletic director told ESPN's Mark Schlabach.

CFP executive director Bill Hancock said the working group zeroed in on 12 teams because it would provide greater participation while preserving the focus of the regular season.

"They could reach consensus on some other model," Hancock said. "They could reach consensus on this, or they could decide to retain the current format. They could endorse a different model."

If the group reaches a consensus, it will present the plan to the 11 presidents and chancellors who make up the CFP's board of managers at a meeting in Dallas on June 22. If the board of managers approves the plan, the commissioners and Swarbrick will use the summer to figure out how to implement it -- and when.

Another meeting is scheduled for September, and any changes to the format would ultimately be made by the presidents and chancellors.

"It's the first step in a long process that won't end before September," Hancock said.

Hancock has said the playoff will not expand this year or next. The current 12-year agreement runs through the 2025-26 season. The working group did not include any potential dates for implementation in its recommendation.

"The timing of the implementation will be decided by the presidents later," Hancock said. "There are existing contracts for the 12 years that would have to be reviewed. The management committee has to endorse this, and the presidents have to authorize further research."
