That's been my take as well. There are too many figures at ESPN that would be sympathetic to Ohio State (Herbstreit, Spiels, Robert Smith, Lou Holthssss, and even Senior VP Vince Doria) to orchestrate a coordinated smear campaign and not have that info leaked by now. I would think Dave Revsine would be the first to offer inside info on ESPN since he left the network for the BTN after hosting SportsCenter, College Game Night, and doing parttime duty on Outside the Lines for ten years.

If anyone would have 'dirt,' it'd be Revsine, and he's in the prime position to capitalize on it since he's the BTN equivilent to Chris Berman.

I tend to agree with this. I don't think there's any anti-OSU bias. I simply think that news about tOSU football is big news because we've been winning so much recently and bad news about a big program is "sexy".

I have to admit that I stopped watching ESPN talking heads a few years ago, but mostly because the endless banter ultimately became more of a distraction to the game than an enhancement. ....couple that with the dozens of fanbases bickering about how they are getting shafted...well it just made for a tiresome experience.

I also have to admit that originally I was very much against BTN because it made it more difficult for me, as a fan, to get certain games out of market. However, regardless of how it changed my viewing abilities and costs of that, it has CLEARLY benefited the conference, so it was obviously the right thing to do even if it isn't convenient for me.

98% of studio personalities are reading a teleprompter. The rivalries and disagreements are clearly scripted between May & Holtz, Clayton & Salisbury, Kiper & McShay. It's not hard to see how they'd play up certain angles or just flat out give them lines to read.

So your theory is the conspiracy starts at the top, filters down, and ends with the people who write the scripts for the shows?

Horseshit.

Few if any tOSU fans give a fuck how often tOSU is covered. It's the vitriol, negative hyperbole, and outright bullshit and lies they talk about tOSU that's the fucking problem. I stopped watching years ago, but it was obvious. Hell, I tried to find them talking the same shit about another team...wasn't happening. So keep believing that everyone but you is paranoid and ESPN is just calling it like they see it. That's your choice.

Why does everyone need to be involved? It's not all or nothing. Just involve a few key "personalities" repeating the same bullshit over and over and the other idiots will be like "it's true, I saw it on cold pizza!". Mission accomplished.

Yes, I believe you've hit the nail on the head...you are paranoid. Deal with it.

My point is once you realize a lot of their conversations are scripted for staged confrontations, it makes you wonder how much else is being scripted.

Do I think Herbie gets a list of bullet points to rag on OSU? No, and I don't think that's handed down from overlords above him.

I also don't think it's a coincidence that Oklahoma gets about 5% as much negative publicity for their much worse big game performance, or that many at ESPN treated the Newton situation with kid gloves.

I just think it's more believable that the GameDay crew sits in pre-production meetings and comes up with their good-cop/bad-cop schtick as opposed to there being some sort of smoking gun memo somewhere where Shipiro ordered a half dozen people to go into attack mode.

If ESPN.com posts an article about Ohio State, no matter how innoculus, it'll get 2000+ comments in a few hours before they shut the comments off.

OSU = eyeballs. Eyeballs = money.

CBSSports does it. SI does it. Even CFN does it. So at some point, people have to recognize that it's not just ESPN that smells blood in the water. I think a lot of this was exacerbated by Tressel's squeaky-clean aw-shucks demeanor, O'Briens issues in the basketball program at the same time the MoC stuff hit the fan, and the fact the program was winning. A lot. The more Tress won, the more people were convinced he must be cheating.

I also said this six or seven years ago ... in the end, I don't really give a shit how a media outlet covers OSU athletics. I'm less concerned about ESPN writing articles about players getting stuff from boosters than I am the fact that players are getting stuff from boosters. So, in my IMHO, I think a lot of anti-ESPN sentiment is misplaced.

Is the wall-to-wall coverage over the top? Yeah, maybe. But that's just because we're so damn good. I think it's a compliment. Ohio State is now in a place formally reserved for teams like the Yankees, Patriots, Lakers, and Notre Dame.

That's fucking awesome. Suck it, haters!

Correct, but Oklahoma and Auburn fans don't drive traffic to the mothership, because most of them are illiterate.

I can buy that, but that adds credence to those arguing about a slant, merely providing another reason for it.

I would not be surprised if all of the ESPN personalities have non-disclosure clauses in their contract which stipulates they cannot divulge any info upon their termination, whether that termination be voluntary or not.

I think Knapplc and Dryden are almost in the bulls-eye....memories are long in any business, so if one announcer uses prior info to ding/gig prior workplace, chances are great that someday he'll be looking for a job, and you don't want to burn any bridges (much less napalm them).

Our OSU contingent are clearly on a short leash, so they don't get the 'homer' nickname. Remember, Herbie is being groomed to be the next Brent Mushmouth, so he MUST appear to be neutral (the fact that he goes out of his way to downgrade OSU is his idea of showing he's not a homer). Josh also gets it, as each show have 'writers' that look to earn eyeballs which get the advertisers to spend money on commercials, and guess what? Nobody cares about the 300,000 residents of Oklahoma buying Buicks, sunblock or Budweiser. Sorry Okies.....Big Ten is in the middle of the largest population area, and OSU has been the 'king' of the hill for some time now, and everyone wants to dethrone the king.....

But, yeah, I'm paranoid as well....and even if [Mark May] is scripted to beat up on OSU, I'll bet vcash the writers do not say "OK, this is where [Mark May] looks in the camera with a supercilious attitude and raises his eyebrows".....that's all him. He still can't get over not being recruited by Woody.....
