For what my opinion is worth (not much I'm told by, well, everyone): I think this Northwestern guy is legit.

Totally agree with you. This guy does seem legit.

But people have to remember, he is hearing things from the Big Ten Office's side. If Texas decides to head elsewhere and blindsides the Big Ten Office, then this NW guy won't see it coming. Of course if Texas gives the BigTen Office a heads up then he would know that too.

It is reminding me of recruiting. The recruit can be telling you he is 110% coming to your school. But if he changes his mind and never tells you, you are shit out of luck.

If we go to two eight team divisions and only play seven conference games doesn't that mean zero inter-division play? What am I missing?

What's the point of bringing in big names like Texas or ND if you don't plan on having them play your other big names like OSU and PSU?

That's why 2 separate divisions of 8 doesn't make sense in order to get anywhere near the most bang for their buck. They make these moves for huge matchups and those divisions kill that.

IMO what one thinks happens next depends on whether you believe folks are posturing or playing it straight up.

If it is straight up then it is Texas et al to the PAC 10, simple as that.

If it posturing then Texas is doing a piss poor job of leveraging their position with the PAC 10 by having Chip broadcast their intentions a week in advance.

I think it would be fascinating to watch corporate mergers happen. But there are two problems. 1) If I had access to inside info I wouldn't understand it. 2) Nobody on the inside would release any info unless it was false or they wanted it known - serving their own best interests in either case.

Texas is working hard to drive up the price per share that the Big Ten must pay.

We play eight conference games now...why would it decrease to seven?
Rumor from PBC that Notre Dame and Texas offers are contingent on them getting permission (exemption) to only have seven conference games instead of eight. Texas to protect their OU game, and Notre Dame to protect their USC game, presumably.

There's been a report out there for a while that Texas and ND want to play only 7 Big Ten conference games while other teams would play 8. And that they're looking for some BCS/conference title concessions in the event of a 7-0 Texas/ND and an 8-0 team at the end of the season.

That scenario just seems bizarre to me, but supposedly it's part of the negotiations between the Big Ten and the folks from Texas and ND.

One possible solution is the Big Ten playing 13 overall games and not have a CCG, and everyone would play 7 conference games - but that would require some NCAA rule changes, since now only Division 1 teams that play a game in your state of Hawaii are allowed to play 13 regular season games (not counting the CCG).

Notre Dame I get (with their CIC roundup), but why does Texas need 5 games? So they can have 4 paycheck opponents besides OU?

So we add Hawaii and all the Big Ten teams take turns playing them. Problem solved.

Maybe they want to continue spanking A&M, or have flexibility to play Arkansas again? I dunno, just bringing up what PBC wrote.
