Why not grab Maryland instead of Pittsburgh? Besides, we have no chance of retaining RR if Wanny is invited to the ball.

WVU could help us perfect our couch burning technique.

UConn is going to the ACC, where they are a perfect fit. Pittsburgh will fit nicely there as wel.

I agree that UConn is best for the ACC. I have no Ohio State pals out here anymore (they all moved away) so my college football talk is all with a Boston College fan and a Maryland fan. So lots of talk about the ACC and the Big East-- you'd be surprised how much hatred there is there. . .

Supposedly Maryland, Virginia Tech, and Miami came out today and said they would not leave the ACC (or so a text message told me). This may mean nothing, but sounded a bit more legit than other such comments by schools. If Maryland would join, I would absolutely take them over any other of the schools I named.

Delaney's moves have been calculated and precise so far. So for him to wait for the "sure thing" in these scenarios and letting things play out before him before making decisions is okay with me.

If the BigTen ends expansion with Nebraska, that's a step forward and a pretty good one. It'd put the conference at 12 schools, opening up numerous opportunities for the future. Not to mention that Nebraska's tradition and culture will fit right in right away.

Delaney's seemingly made it known that he's not drooling over Texas, nor do I believe that he or any BigTen presidents should be. If Texas's decision is to take its BigXII whipping posts out west with them, so be it. This gives Delaney a clearer more accurate picture of what may play out with everyone else. In the end--Nebraska, Mizzou, Notre Dame and two teams out of the Big East would not be a terrible goal. Geographically it makes sense, academically and culturally it makes sense.

It's like throwing all your eggs in the basket of a top ranked QB recruit while we have such great depth at QB when all we really need is a handful of solid O-Linemen and to fill spots. I'm willing to bet that Delaney has multiple endgames in mind, and all of them are going to be greatly beneficial to the conference whether or not Texas is a part.
I'm still not sold on the east coast schools - as much as a Bucks game at Rutgers would personally benefit me, I'd rather stay to the middle of the country... JMHO, of course
You must be high.

And you believe tradition and geography win out over finances? :so:

[tradition and geography] doesn't necessarily make the Pac a better option overall, but it's their primary advantage in my view.
As noted above, I never argued that. Both have advantages and disadvantages, and tradition/history + geography are advantages of the SWC+Pac-8 conference. The BigTen has other advantages. What will win out, I don't claim to know.
Not sure...

Besides, I live in CA now, what the fuck does a game in Syracuse or, God forbid, Storrs do for me?
Maybe I was high. . .

What it does for you is it lets me take a quick train ride to NJ or MD to watch a game and not be so bitchy and annoying, therefore making your life better.

It sounds like in the Big 12 the teams control rights to games that don't get picked up by ESPN/FSN. So it would make sense for Nebraska to put any of those 2010 games on the BTN. Could force it onto basic cable sooner and start the revenue flowing a year early.

That would be interesting. I'm sure somebody would raise a stink about it too.

I've seen a lot of people, when talking about how realignment will affect bowls, say that a new Pac-16 would demand two automatic BCS berths. My question is, what if the all the other conferences say no? If everybody else stands pat, why should the other conferences agree to take another piece of the pie off the table and give it to them?

I hope I am only making Nebraska friends as an Ohio State emissary, but that depends on if they appreciate my humor. To wit:

Re: One bit of bad news for Nebraska in joining the BIG-10

She said the same thing to me.

Oh yes. Destroying our reputation already I am (actually I've been quite nice).

The scout public discussion board is the busiest.

Huskerboards.com is unaffiliated and a bit more intelligent (we all know scout boards) but it also has slower traffic.

This is probably what Delany is referring to when saying that things would be disproportionate early on until Nebraska was made "whole," then they'll become an equal partner like everybody else.

When UNL is a full-fledged Big Ten member on July 1, 2011, they'll get their cut like everybody else (and have to pony up their share of gate receipts to subsidize Indiana like everybody else does). But until then, they'll get a free ride on BTN and get their own take for what they bring.
