High Lonesome - I can't remember ever hearing from Ketch or Chip any hint of well we might be wrong, are they even considering that?

Not their style...I wish I could remember the exact situation but there have been a couple of times that in the not so distant past that Belmont gave Chip false information just to make orangebloods look bad. UT(re: Mack Brown) isn't a fan orangebloods.com. That feeling stems from the fact that Ketch started that site and has used relationships that he makes with recruits to get information. Many of his "sources" are players.

Chip actually has real sources but has been used to make Ketch look bad in the past

It seems like there are more than a few posters that feel like Texas will become a reality... I dont get it, nothing other than a mildcat board and a kc news station is supporting this. I dont see Texas leading everyone on including their own fan base then pulling the rug out from under them.... If anyone can convince me otherwise I would love it.... I would like ND aTm and Texas.... but seems like a pipe dream.

As far as I'm concerned with UT, if they want to join the Big Ten (1) without bringing little brother (Texas A&M) along who doesn't fit the Big Ten academic profile and (2) without clamoring for anything other than an equal money split with the other Big Ten teams, then they're more than welcome. Otherwise, there's the door.

HL.....being a Texas fan, how big of a deal would Texas and Texas A&M breaking up the rivalry be? I have some people living in Texas telling me it's huge.

Could you imagine tOSU and Mich breaking up? It is the oldest rivalry in the state. I could really go on about this for a long time and maybe throughout the day i'll add some more thoughts to this but I don't really have time right now.

I'll say this, I understand why aTm would want to break away. Their current national reputaion is that of little brother. Thats a tough pill to swallow for a school with close to 50k students, a huge endowment, and a boat load of pride. Many over there feel that to raise their profile they must get out of the shadow of Austin. Breaking away is perhaps the easiest way to do just that.

I may love to rag on them, but aTm certainly fits the big 10 academic profile

A&M would fit in perfectly with their academic profile. You are thinking of Tech.

The SEC isn't the best place to raise your profile unless they are looking for an Auburn "middle of the pack jump up to the top once per decade" type of arrangement, maybe they should consider the Mountain West or WAC if that is really what is driving them.

Honestly the guys were more humble and a lot more based in reality when they first started on AM. Now they are pretty bad homers, I wish I knew what happened to Rosey in the morning, even though he was a Domer, he wasn't as bad a homer as Dan Neil. I can hardly stand to listen to them now.

Re:
Former Texas A&M football coach R.C. Slocum, who now works as a special adviser to Loftin, said football programs are carrying an increased financial burden to support other sports, so they're drawn to potentially massive TV contracts for more revenue.
"You look at the level of funding that all programs need to have, and it's a business decision that universities now have to make," Slocum said.
Slocum said any decision A&M makes will be based purely on its financial impact, and not on more intangible elements, like preserving traditions and rivalries.

This is kind of sad but true. The money is more important than the traditions and rivalries. If you don't have the money you don't have an athletic program. The days are long gone where the state legislatures are going to approve public tax money to support the "Cadillac athletic program" at any state supported university.

I agree. If tOSU ever [censored] on the OSU/scUM rivalry just for more money I would be DONE with college football.

Orangebloods.com - A&M could throw off Big 12 six targeted by Pac-10
June 10, 2010

Chip Brown
Orangebloods.com Columnist

Nebraska's Board of Regents today will announce the Cornhuskers' plan to join the Big Ten Conference, according to two sources close to the situation.

The Pac-10 will try to challenge Nebraska for one of the headlines of the day by holding press conference with Colorado officials at Folsom Field to announce the Buffaloes are headed west in what is expected to be an exodus west along with five Big 12 South teams.

But there may end up being a whole lot of drama between the Lone Star State's most bitter rivals as it pertains to the six Big 12 schools being targeted for expansion by the Pac-10.

Colorado has already announced it's heading west.

Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and Oklahoma are waiting for a formal announcement by Nebraska about joining the Big Ten before announcing that they, too, are headed west to the Pac-10.

But sources say Texas A&M is still seriously exploring joining the Southeastern Conference. That charge is being led by A&M regent Gene Stallings, who, of course, won a national title in 1992 at Alabama as head coach...

If you've ever gotten into the "The Big Ten can't count" argument, note that with CU in the Pac-10 but UNL technically still a member of the Big XII, as of today (and probably today only), the Big Ten, Pac 10, and Big XII all have eleven members. Nobody can count.
