it may be true that aTm had a plan for the SEC but the reason Tech is a problem is because they are a teir 3 school. aTm is one of the top public research institutions in the US. Their only problem is a Napoleon complex.

side note: last time i defend aggy, but it really is a great public school

What i mean is the Tech legislative problem. Texas getting away from Tech was a problem that was not originally thought of in the Texas exit plan.

So I'm trying to figure what UT is negotiating for. Do they really believe they're going to get an above equal share of the TV money? They can't think that can they?

I could see them trying to get a certain amount (maybe all) the Big 10 Conference Champion Games in the Jerry Dome.

Haggling over ND's inclusion, but why?

What else is there to argue about?

Why is aTm even considering the SEC then?

Their opinion of their school is so inflated its amazing. They seriously look at themselves as one of the legendary college football schools.
It's an almost cult (sorry Waco) like environment there. Everyone is white (except athletes) and everyone goes to the Dixie Chicken. Everyone wears funny looking boots and the same clothes. I wish I were stereotyping but Im not.

It?s All About Texas ? FRANK THE TANK?S SLANT

Frank the Tank (the comments are more informative than the articles) is now of the mind that what we're waiting on is a decision from Notre Dame.

Specifically, Big East Commissioner Marrinato has given Swarbrick an ultimatum: Get in or get out. We're not carrying you around for your non-revenue sports while other conferences raid us for football teams because you won't play ball. If we can get a Kansas or Missouri we need to do it now. We don't need you for the NY market because our conference is already made up of a bunch of New England-based basketball powers and catholic schools, and you sure as hell don't contribute anything to us in terms of football exposure.

More insidious, it's being speculated that Delany set this up, by calling Marrinato and telling him to either give Notre Dame a push out the door or we come and take Syracuse and Rutgers and the conference falls apart. Look what we just did to the Big XII, and all we had to do to set that in motion was feed rumors to some Internet message board wonks.

So ... yeah. Kick out Notre Dame or ESPN will be reporting that 'Cuse has an offer on tonights 6:00 SportsCenter. Good luck fending off the ACC and SEC who come for the candy once we've whacked open that pinata of your conference. And by the way ... we'll still wind up with Notre Dame.

Delany. Out.

That's the great thing about it. Delany has the stones to do it, and the Big East knows it. But, I have to believe Delany is banking on the SEC raiding the ACC which will raid the Big East - something which ND would be foolish to not understand. Bottom line, Big East - you're done, with or without ND.

I don't know... maybe ND could save the Big East, but I'm not sure their saying "We're Big East for all sports" would stop the eventual SEC, ACC raids.

I was all prepared to bust out some numbers and shit all over the notion that A&M is a good school, but when I did the research I discovered that they're actually pretty similar to most of the Big Ten. So yeah I was wrong; I'm not crazy about the strong tradition of racism they've got working, but academically they seem like a decent fit. They're at least as good a fit as ND (maybe better). They're not quite as good a fit as Texas, but I wouldn't give them the cold shoulder.

This has me wondering if there was anything about Mike Tranghese that Delany could not (would not) do it before. A prior agreement? Mutual respect? Were we building the BTN for Notre Dame? It's already a better sports channel than NBC. :p

But this does help paint a picture about the politics of the Big East. U-Conn's Randy Edsall is already on record having bitched about Notre Dame's preferential treatment while the Connecticuts, West Virginias, Rutgers, etc ... don't get the benefit of exposure playing Notre Dame would undoubtedly bring. Bending over backwards for Notre Dame's non-revenue sports probably already cost them BC, Va Tech and Miami. I mean, if you think about it, would the ACC have ever picked those schools off if Notre Dame was a full-time football member? Probably not. But further, it appears Notre Dame has their own Texas-style voting bloc going on by having all the catholic basketball-only members following them around and voting in-line with Notre Dame's wishes.

There better be a book or an ESPN 30 for 30 about this when it's all over.

Assuming [insert schools here] join the Big 10 ... what would the name be?
The name of the conference is now, and will continue to be, the Big Ten.

"Ten" ceased to be a number when Penn State joined the conference twenty years ago; it's just a word now. If we can call ourselves the Big Ten with eleven members, I see no reason we can't continue once we have 12. Or 14. Or 16. Or 23.
Who the [censored] cares what you call it? No matter how many teams the B10 takes, they should keep the same name... it just doesn't matter.
Well if we stop at Nebraska, we could use this as the logo:
