OK, I know where this is headed.

Do we have a vBet out on Texas?

Nope, just the one that closed on 3/31 - it would be tough to set the odds since things change almost hourly - plus it could easily be finalized while the vBet is still open, which is a problem.

I have a source that says Texas A&M and Oklahoma to the SEC is all but a done deal, and that Texas is trying to blackmail the Big Ten which may cost us Notre Dame. Apparently the SEC is courting Virginia Tech and an unnamed other school too. Apparently now the Big Ten is reeling. . .
You hearing who they're trying to bring on board with them instead of ND?

Since I can't make any money, here is what my hairdresser just PMd me:

Texas has wanted the Big Ten from the start.
Much of what has been going on is posturing to get the best deal they can.
Research dollars trump athletic dollars - so in the end the athletic department will yield to what is best for the school.

This is from a poster of another site that I view. I'm thinking the poster is being a little overcautious but it is interesting nevertheless.

"I have to admit I'm beginning to think there is at least a possibility that tomorrow's Regents meeting will not go as we expect and we decide to do nothing. Let me explain why and then arguments that would seem to contradict those concerns.

Reasons why I think we might do nothing:
-Every media outlet in the country seems to think this is all a done deal-except the local media. Not one local media outlet has seen enough yet to say for sure that we are indeed leaving for the Big 10.
-Every university official who has spoken to the local media insists there has been no invitation and nothing has been decided yet one way or the other. Even Shawn Watson said that he hasn't been given any indication which way we are going.
-Based on comments from Texas and A&M, it sounds like they have not decided for sure at all to leave the Big 12. OU apparently has said they had no knowledge of any deal to move them and most of the rest of the Big 12 South to the Pac 10. So it appears there is at least a chance there will still be a Big 12 conference we could return to(minus Colorado, who could be replaced with somebody else).

Arguments that would seem to refute those concerns:
-Why would we be discussing "conference alignment" before the Board of Regents if we intended to do nothing? If we were staying in the Big 12, nobody would have to say or discuss anything-we'd just move along as if nothing had happened.
-University officials insisting nothing has been decided could just mean nothing has been decided officially. On a technical basis, that is true. Plus, when they say we have not received any invitation from the Big 10 yet, that is technically true as well. Apparently, as I have heard elsewhere, the proper procedure is that we apply for membership to the Big 10 and then they act on the application. What I have heard is that the Big 10 has informally invited us to apply for membership with the understanding that it will be approved.
-Not one "insider" I have heard from seems to have any doubt that we are going to the Big 10. Of course, we have seen that inside information can be wrong, but you would think if somebody had any indication that it wasn't going to happen, they would say so.

If I had to guess, I would guess that we go to the Big 10 just as everybody seems to think we will. But I'm not quite as sure about it as I would like to be. Perhaps I am just being overcautious, but I like to look at all possibilities so that I am not surprised at what transpires."

Man I love the off season :) the article Grad posted was right on. Chip has been turned into a mouth piece of disinformation, It almost feels like a presidential election. I kinda feel bad for the guy because he's going to look very very bad if the Texas Bloc doesn't end up in the Pac-10, but fame and bright lights are too much to resist.

Who knows Chip may know exactly whats going on but has been told keep your mouth shut and say this or else

I still will get quite a bit of satisfaction listening to the radio once they announce it because there hasn't even been any consideration for "ya know... what if he's wrong". Then again I live in Texas, where they remind you that they were their own country for a while, and really still are

There is absolutely no good reason for Texas to join the Pac10 over the Big10 and everyone knows it, including Texas. If they go to the Pac10, I wouldn't even care because they would render themselves less relevant than they are right now.

TV market, actual football, exposure, basketball, academics, MONEY, MONEY, MONEY.......

Big Ten is better all around in every category....

At issue is that some in power may not have the same set of values. They may have to value state politics over $, they may value baseball that much, etc.

I agree with you. However, until I see an announcement by Powers that Texas is coming here I am going to doubt Texas is coming though it is apparent by my posts that I am hoping!

Texas would just be stupid to go Pac10 over us. And I honestly wouldn't care cause they would have so much less of an impact on college athletics as a whole in the Pac10 than they would in the Big Ten.

Notre Dame has no leverage either, unless they want to go to the Big East. They HAVE to make a move. They can't just sit their as independents and lose their BCS leverage and the Big Ten can always refuse to play them if they decide to not come. I know much of this has been pointed out.

The Big Ten is really in a good spot whether they decide to come or not. I just think that it is in both Texas' and Notre Dame's best interest to join the Big Ten.

UNLV - If the Pac 10 looks at population shifts, maybe they'd have an interest in Vegas, one of the fastest growing markets in the country.

not going to happen.
Vegas isn't growing any more, it's shrinking. plus, IIRC, the only time Sam Boyd Stadium has ever sold out in the 10 years i've been was when Wisconsin came to town.
