Since 1995, the number of Big Ten titles in football:

Ohio State: 6
Michigan: 5
Northwestern: 3
Iowa: 2
Wisconsin: 2
Illinois: 1
Penn State: 1
Purdue: 1
Indiana: 0
Michigan State: 0
Minnesota: 0

They are a powerhouse academic institution. They excel in several other sports. They may suck in big-time men's sports, but overall they are an integral part of the conference. And since they've won more conference titles in football than all but Ohio State and Michigan over the last 13 seasons, it would be tough to justify kicking them out.

Damn, I didn't know Northwestern had won that many Big10 Titles...thats great for them. Well if we can't get rid of Northwestern, then get rid of Minnesota!!!!

lol I was kidding...I thought it was a stupid idea to get rid of Northwestern so I was kidding about getting rid of Minny. I like the way the Big 10 is right now.

Yep. Each school in one way or another brings something to the table. Our conference has more history than any other...it doesn't need to be messed with.

thanks for your thoughts guys. the only post i didnt agree with was some guy saying that the sec teams basically didnt have the guts to play the big ten teams and just played each other to pad our strength of schedules. firstly, i hope there is proof that an sec team refused to play a big ten team. If there is i would like to know about it. Next, and the biggest reason is that, besides having to possibly play in a ccg at the end of the year against the other sides best, an sec team has a tough enough road to deal with in its own right. The sec is the toughest conference for a reason. You first has to play fla, ga, ut, and lsu. additionally clemson is on the schedule as an out of conference mainstay. that is exactly why we dont need to play the big ten in the regular season. We save it until the end.

You can't really say you are the toughest conference when you don't play against other big conferences.

Please, please don't spout the "we can't play a respectable out of conference schedule because our in conference schedule is too hard" nonsense. You don't play anyone OOC because 1) idiots think that beating Louisiana-Monroe (or, if you're Alabama, losing to them) is meaningful and consequently vote SEC teams highly, 2) you make a boatload of money scheduling 8-10 home games per year, and 3) SEC teams have not historically played well (or, really, at all) outside of the south. Deal with it.

To be fair, Tennessee is starting to show a willingness to venture from the confines of Dixie. They played a H/H with Cal and aren't they scheduled to play the Bucks in 15 years or so??????

But the rest of the conference is just pitiful, although it is beginning to change as Bama (I think?) is scheduled to play Penn State and Auburn to play WVU in the coming years....

For the top team, Conference Championship Games are a liability only. There is no positive. In looking at the Big 12, never has a team catapulted to the National championship Game because of the CCG. However, quite a few teams that were the best of the regular season were denied after losing the conference championship game.

Plus, the team is exposed to double jeapordy, where they might have to face a team they had already beaten that year.

CCG's were made for money, not greatness.

I have major respect for Tenn's bravery, and look forward to our upcoming series. That said, the SEC has not done too well in premiere OOC games lately.

The SEC is an outstanding conference, and would be a bear for any team. However, when teams in that conference go entire decades without leaving their area, including bowl games, it

LSU proved they were the better squad in Nawlins.
Georgia beat a Hawaii team who would've been crushed by most of the top-15.
Tennessee barely squeaked by the b10.
Arkansas got destroyed by Missouri.

When I watch the SEC, I see a conference with a tougher grind than any other... and more depth. However on an annual basis, I do not see unparalleled NC-caliber play at the top. And somehow very average b10 teams like PSU, Wisconsin and Iowa seem to give much "faster", "talented" squads a whale of a game.
