Didn't notice anyone posted this. First time I've read it ... paints Delaney as the evil mastermind.

Big 12 blew it by eschewing playoff - College Football - Rivals.com

I read that revolting pile of crap. Boo fucking hoo. While I haven't personally seen one of Delaney's business cards, I'm pretty sure that his title is not Chairman of the NCAA or Commissioner of the BCS or Tooth Fairy of College Football Fairnesss. He's the Big Ten Commissioner. It's his professional and fiduciary responsibility to do what's in the best interests of the Big Ten Conference and its member universities.

If the Big 12 guy was too naive...or too stupid....or both to have realized it, too fucking bad. What's he going to do? Send Danny Ocean to the Big Ten offices to ask Delaney for a Billy Martin?

I read this over breakfast and spent the whole day kicking it around after driving back home from D.C. Wetzel needs to take off the fucking tin foil hat. He has an obvious agenda when it comes to his vision of a college football playoff. The whole part about the Big East forming a coalition to freeze the Big Ten out of future championships was a laugh riot.

Wetzel apparently doesn't realize that even if his characterization of Delany's motives are true, it just shows that he's a good two years behind the curve on what the decision makers in college football are actually up to. Good luck trying to sell that book, doofus.

I just read through a long thread on a Baylor board and came away with a few very interesting perspectives.

There seems to be a perspective that UT is more than happy with the TX legislature getting involved. It gives them cover to jettison CU--a school that they viewed as one who would side with existing Pac 10 schools on conference matters--and substitute Baylor who will be a reliable rubber stamp vote (as will A&M and Tech) on any issue of importance to UT.

I hope the Pac 10 really understands what it's getting itself into. I'm certainly beginning to get a better understanding of why the notion of being a sole entry (or possibly with a combination of ND/Big East schools) into the Big Ten seemed to not interest UT in the least.

I too am bailing from the Texas bandwagon. It's becoming more and more evident that between the SWC, Big XII, and perhaps soon the Pac 10, those Texas schools are to conferences what Michael Vick is to coaches (or dogs).

Do this and all hell will break loose! It would be entertaining if nothing else.

The Big 12 South leaves
KSU, ISU, KU, CU to MW conference.
SEC grabs some combo of Clemson, VTech, FSU, Gtech, Miami
Big 10 raids a couple ACC or Big East
Remainer of ACC and Big East combine with the possibility of a team or two getting left out

Then we can spend time speculating as to which 2 teams the Big 10 adds!

Edit*.... and congrat to Joel Hale for being able to play for OSU and kick Notre Dame in the nads a couple of times!

Best option given Texas' insanity and 3 natural fits in the conference.

Big Ten = 10 states (PA, OH, MI, IN, IL, IA, MN, WI, MO, NE)

Check the Expansionpalooza Overflow thread. In the comments, waaaay down starting around 4:00pm today, it was mentioned that an announcement of Mizzou, Nebraska, and Notre Dame is imminent (as early as Wednesday). One of the sources works at a TV network and confirmed he's heard the rumor through the station. These three are being invited first, and Mizzou was at the request of Notre Dame, to take the conference to 14. Then an offer will be extended to Texas & Texas A&M. Done this way, the Texas legislature will get the hint that there are only two spots remaining, so Tech and Baylor are not even negotiable from the Big Ten's position. If this becomes a hang-up, then the Big Ten goes east (Cuse and Rutgers?) Either way, Delany saves face and the Texas state legislature is painted as the ones that failed to get Texas in.

I'm not too worried about the SEC raiding the ACC, especially with their new contract. I think most of the schools will scoff at the academics.

I wasn't aware FSU students cared about academics? They care more about fake boobs and football. Its a perfect match for the SEC if UF would let them in.

Gotta be honest, if they pulled that off with or without Texas/aTM, it would be genius.

If the domer thing goes down, with or without an eventual Texas invite, Delaney's legacy is pretty damned secure. Plus, the domer boards are going to be a riot!

You are incorrect. FSU students do not care about football*...which is why Gators buy FSU season packages to get seats to the UF game when it is at Ron Zook Field.

And if I had a vote, Al Quida Trade School would get an invite before HalfAssU.

this is the most sensible so far......

1. lock in the 3 that give the conference a boost on the football field....Nebraska + ND + the perennial B10 powers = wow.

2. purposely leave 2 open slots

3. aim for the moon by inviting Texas and Texas A&M

4. behind the scenes, organize a new pecking order over alternates that drive up the TV market potential in the East

5. the next 2 that would be a home run would be: Rutgers and a increasingly interesting Maryland.....lock in a part of the NY/NJ market plus the DC/Balt markets.....increase interest in Phillly market with the Eastern shift and suddenly the BigTen is top billing (for college sports) in NY, Chic, Phil, DC, Omaha:), Detroit, Cleveland, Pitt, Indy, MPLS, etc........plus the national brands of ND, Nebraska, Ohio State, Penn STate, and Michigan extend the reach of the BigTen to be a close second in just about any market outside of the BigTen footprint.

I love it.

GReat Football ? The BigTen's got it.
Great Basketball ? Yep.
Great Wrestling & Lacrosee ? Yep.
Great academics ? Yep.

Thoughts on the final two:

Colorado and Syracuse/Rutgers: all good programs and suitable academically. The B10 would have a single continuous footprint extending from the Statue of Liberty to the Continental Divide. (my choice)

Syracuse/Rutgers and Maryland/Boston College: further strengthen our influence along the NE Seaboard and into NYC and either Boston or Baltimore/MD. Boston College would give the domers a natural rival. BC would bump the Big Ten up to 7 D1 hockey programs, one short of ncaa requirements for a conference.

Texas and Texas A&M: It gives us Texas but after the last week one must ask at what cost to conference unity and cohesion.

...and a couple of outside the box thoughts

UVA and Maryland: one great public u and one very good one. Totally, locks down the DC market.

Vandy and GaTech: Two excellent universities sweeping the Big Ten's reach southward and into Atlanta. Remember Sherman, Bitches? We're Back!

And if the domers stonewall us at the last minute....again!...we fucking crush them. We destroy their little safe house in the Big East and leave them crying in the scorched ruins like a third degree burned baby. We stop scheduling them...in everything! We form a Big Ten Hockey Conference and leave them in the rump CCHA. We ensure that they are NEVER elected into the AAU.

We see to it that they enjoy their independence with the same relevance as another former football powerhouse Catholic university: Fordham.
