Andy Katz trying to get a lead by throwing out some smoke and hoping someone who actually knows something calls him. A very old journalistic trick.

Jeter and Rodriguez to the Reds for Marty Brennaman and two players to be named later,

Katz didn't report anything different than the KC radio station did several hours earlier.

I find it disturbing that Dennis Dodd of CBS Sports was stalking/staking out the Missouri athletic director in a Mizzou parking lot Monday.

But considering some of the stuff he's wrote in the past, not really surprised.

If this was the Big Ten's idea to leak some information to get a reaction from other schools (not the four rumored schools), hope it worked.

These articles can be so misleading. A few months ago there was one out about Notre Dame that made it sound like there was no way they'd join. At least a few people on this board took that and started calling out anyone that said otherwise. But if you actually read the quotes in the article it was fairly obvious that ND was leaving the door open a little bit.

The title of this particular article is "Big Ten denies report". I wish they'd at least show something that supports that. This is exactly what the article uses as support that the Big Ten denied the report:

A Big Ten spokesman denied the report, telling the Tribune "nothing has changed" since Delany told reporters at the BCS meetings in Scottsdale that everything regarding expansion was "to be determined."

Ohhhhh, so since expansion is still to be determined then the report must be false!

I'm not saying it's not false but I haven't seen anything yet that rules out that something recently happened. If anything did happen though I bet it was more of a "feeler offer", which saves face if there's a denial and is easier to deny/avoid questions from the media for all parties.

What is the Big 10 supposed to say without tipping its hand? Count me in as part of the group that thinks any report, no matter what the source, is unsubstantiated until a school or the Big 10 confirms it.

The Big 10 said it would reach out to conferences first. I think when it's time for expansion, we'll be able to see it coming.

You just reiterated what I said. All my post was referring to was the report that refuted the other report. Unless you think what you said holds true for original reports but not reports that following up the original reports.

This post made my head hurt, but I think I follow. My only point is that people are throwing shit against a wall and seeing what sticks. Even if a report is 100% false, the Big 10 can't do anything other than simply deny the report. Offering evidence that supports their denial could shed light on what the Big 10's actual plan is. Furthermore, the Big 10 doesn't have to offer any evidence. Right now they've created a hotbed of discussion that has surprised college football fans across the country with just how much clout the Big 10 holds.

What I was trying to say is that any rumor about the Big 10's actions (like Andy Katz's report) that does not source a school or the Big 10 itself, is unsubstantiated. I would tend to believe any report coming from the conference or a school (like the Big 10's denial) over the unsubstantiated reports. On a related note, Dr. Saturday wrote about this yesterday, before Andy Katz's report and ESPN's denial:
You, too, can spark a bogus Big Ten expansion rumor - Dr. Saturday - NCAAF Blog - Yahoo! Sports

Jealousy rears its (very) ugly head at the

Washington Post

Read at your own risk
whoever wrote that garbage said:
Notre Dame is a Big East basketball team despite the fact that it's west of every other team in the league, and of half the country, for that matter.

South Bend Indiana is beyond the halfway point of the United States?

Could you paraphrase? I'm stuck at work for a while and for some reason the Washington Post is blocked...

WaPo Hack said:
I'm from Kansas and I love the Jayhawks and the Big 8 schools... and the Big 10 could never be as great as us and the big meanies are ruining everything and I wish they'd leave us alone and boo hoo hoo...

I'll spare you the picture of the author.

Someone who thinks they're being witty - "Big 10-Eleven" - bitching about "her beloved Big Eight" teams being snatched up. Oh, and she doesn't care what Texas does.
And she doesn't know that you can travel by airplane from Omaha to Newark or South Bend. I don't know about Madison.
