I guess the big ten offered Nebraska, Missouri, Notre dame and i think Pitt. thats what college football live is saying. IMO notre dame wont join, they cant hang with us and they would rather play Army and Navy.

Supposdely Rutgers... not Pitt.

Your unsubstantial rumor for the week...

Really... I can see the guys in the Big Ten offices sitting down every Monday over coffee and bagels trying to think of a crazy idea they can float to fuck with the Big XII & Big East offices.

*EDIT* Oh yeah, the Nebraska President already shot down this report, then again he would probably say the same thing even if it was true. :paranoid:

Radio.810.in.KC.article

A poorly written section here....

"Notre Dame has repeatedly declined the opportunity to join the Big Ten. If Notre Dame remains independent, Rutgers would be the 14th team. The Big Ten would then decide whether to stop at 14 or extend offers to two other schools. If Notre Dame joins, sources say an offer will be extended to one other school making it a 16-team league."

They say Rutgers gets the opportunity ONLY if ND says no. Then goes on to say if ND accepts the Big 10 only gets one more to make it to 16? The initial premise was Rutgers gets the offer only if ND says no... so at that point we'd have NU, MU and RU. Thus it gives 14 members to us.

But for my personal observations I think scenario is the way Delaney wants it. We get NU (national following) and Mizzou (KC and STL markets). ND via the Catholics/ and NYC ND subway alumni or Rutgers gets us into the NYC/NJ market. So we sit at 14 teams and when Colorado bolts to the Pac 10 (or Pac 12, whatever) the Big 10 says to UT and TAMU (I assume this will be a package) that we have our offices and half the league in central time unlike the SEC and PAC-whatever. We also have the academics and CIC you desire. Your league revenues stink... come join us.

You can't have OSU & UM in different divisions, and I'd argue that ruining the OSU-PSU rivalry would be a mistake as well. What tie breakers would those be? BCS rankings?
That's one of the unappealing features of expansion, from a football-centric (and OSU-centric) perspective. You either have to weaken important rivalries, or else create divisions which are highly imbalanced. Or both. There's no way around that, and the programs added need to be first-rate overall, to offset that downside.

Makes sense. They are all AAU schools except ND but they are kind of in a league of their own academically. If ND says no do they stick with just the 14? I am intrigued by Maryland. They fit the AAU criteria but would they add more than Pitt? Not sure.

An interesting option other then Texas which would be crazy is UNC. Obviously distance is a huge factor but they would certainly be a cool option.

Finally, the last thing to think about with ND is hockey and the potential for a Big Ten Hockey Conference. If ND says no to this final invitation would BTHC say no to ND? Just something to think about...

One last thought. UVA. Academically these seem to make sense. Also with all of the money these schools would be bringing in, they can significantly upgrade their facilities.

and it's already being reported that Nebraska has declined....in same Andy Katz report on bottom line. Don't think that was there before.

What are the odds this expansion plan absolutely blows up in Delaney's face and we're left to remain the current conference we are, or we bring in a single B or even C level tier school (Rutgers, Cuse, etc.)

If Nebraska has declined, there's no chance in hell Notre Dame accepts. You'd think Rutgers would want in, but do we really want Rutgers without the additions of Nebraska, Missouri, and Notre Dame?
