Because they share in the bowl revenue and the tv revenue. For a school that doesn't want to fund a proper athletic department, they'd be foolish to leave a league that shovels and shares money by the truckload, don't you think?

Furthermore - Vandy's committment to hoops is impressive, but it isn't ACC impressive.

...and likewise my vote for dumbest AD of all times is the guy who pulled South Carolina out of the ACC and into the SEC. I mean, if they were still in the ACC we'd see Spurrier smile sometime...

From a bearkitty thread on Big Ten expansion--long story short, they're the perfect candidate, but we're vetoing their offer--comes this guy.

Post #1:
I don't know why those Big East teams would go to the Big Ten.

Personally, I think the Big Ten is one of the most overrated conferences in the history of college f-ball and b-ball.

The Big East is far superior in B-ball, and just a notch below in f-ball and improving.

And exactly 64 minutes later, this:
I think it will hurt all those programs rather than help them. They'll become bottomfeeders in the Big Ten. Just more teams for OSU and others to kick around.

So what is it? Are we hopelessly overrated or will the cream of the Big East become bottomfeeders? Not sure both can be true.

Actually both can be true. Even if the Big Ten is hopelessly overrated it could still be good enough to make the "cream" of the Big East bottom feeders.

As JT and others have said, big expansion is going to happen... probably soon.

So let's go crazy.

Instead of 16, go to 18

That way, each division has 9 teams. The conference schedule for each team comprises the other 8 teams in their division and that's it. That way, each team's conference slate has 4 home games and 4 away games.

Big 18 East

Ohio State
Penn State
Ntre ame
MSU
TSUN
Indiana
Purdue
Rutgers
Syracuse

Big 18 West

Texas
Nebraska
Missouri
Kansas
Iowa
Wisconsin
Illinois
Minnesota
Northwestern

If the Republic of Texas insists that aTm be part of the deal, add Pitt, Maryland and BC and become the Big XXII - two eleven team divisions - each conference slate is 5 home games and 5 away games

Better yet - let's make it the REALLY BIG CXX and include all 120 Division I-A teams. Screw that FBS stuff; it's our conference, we'll call it whatever we want. Have a home-and-away with every team. Every season lasts 3 years - then a 6 month playoff.

Free beer for everybody and no TV time-outs

The Cocks left the ACC in '71 under AD Paul Dietzel.

They joined the SEC in '91 while King Dixon was at the helm.

The bit about the Big East growing a pair and kicking out ND was interesting. That's really probably their best play though like it said, I don't know that it would work. What do they have to lose though? If they kick out ND and get raided for other teams anyway, what does it matter? They're still screwed on the football side, and for the other sports where ND actually is affiliated I can't imagine that they add enough to everybody else's bottom line to not try it. It's like pulling the goalie for an extra attacker. You're losing anyway, you may as well pull out all the stops because just hanging on for dear life isn't going to help.
