Wow, nobody's mentioned Chinatown. I just bought the dvd and watched it tonight for the first time in years. It has to be one of the top movies that came out of hollywood's most creative period.

I did a quick scan and may have missed it but I'm surprised no one else has my favorite on their list. Red Dawn. I don't watch many movies twice but this is one I've watched many times. Great movie.

What is the criteria for deciding "best"? I mean, is it movies that changed cinema, movies that had a dramatic effect on society, movies that give the best/most accurate portrayal of an event or idea, or what?
