Don't you you mean "a" Buckeye Fan and "a" hour?

You only use "an" before words that begin with a vowel.

With a little research at askoxford.com:

"a" precedes a word that begins with a consonant sound, such as "university";
"an" precedes a word that begins with a consonant sound, such as "hour".
