Very underrated hit...

The announcers were just doing their game wrap up because the game was basically over, and they just glossed over the hit with something like "And Bobby Carpenter hits Jason Avant"

Lame announcing, but a MONSTER hit, nonetheless.

well, watch AJ Hawk's last game against Notre Dame and you will see four or five great, great hits, delivered after world-class linebacker speed. First play of the fourth quarter, he is lined up on the wrong side of the field, someone points to #21 out in the slot, he crosses the field and runs the guy down laterally for no gain. Impressive.

But I also remember back in the 80s, William White our db who went on to play in the NFL (Lions?) in a Michigan game. Michigan TE catches the ball and fakes out the LB. TE is maybe 6'6, 260, William White is 5'9, 185 or so, and White comes up and STICKS him, stops him cold, and wraps him up and puts him down. No-one else probably remembers this except William White.

Then, put in the DL hits on Dorsey in the Championship game. That guy was a RAG DOLL by the end of that game, and not just from Wilhelm but the abuse he got all game from Scott, Peterson, Will Smith....

yeah, this could get you pumped up and anxious for that first game. Poor Penguins!

AJ Hawk - Fiesta Bowl (Notre Dame) along with his numerous tackles of quinn his hit on darius walker on a screen play was nice.

Nate Salley - Michigan, not to many people remember it, but it was the 2003 season. Braylon Edwards was streaking down the side and salley blasted him, basically sending him into the band. (never saw a replay of the hit but remember it vividly).....one more hit from salley not mentioned, Michigan, 2004 season, during a screen play to mike hart where he ended up gaining over 20+ yards, David Baas who had pulled from his offensive line position to lead block was out in front, and Salley comming out of nowhere Kamikaze's himself and absolutely blasted Baas (who was well over 300lbs) even though salley took himself out of the play he did end up giving baas one hell of a hit and knocked him on his ass.


Darrion Scott - Cincinnati, 2002 season, i beleive the QB was Gino Guduilgi (spelling?) anyways during that game he came in blind side and blew up the QB causing a fumble.

I can't remember the player or the opponent. But it was the 2002 season and it was on the pre-game show on the scoreboard during the 2003 season. The opposing quarterback was trying to avoid the sack. He avoided one or two guys, but someone knocked the ball out of his hands. The QB was able to pick the ball up quickly, and he thought he might have escaped the sack and head up field. But just as he looked up after picking up the ball, there was a defensive lineman to knock him on his ass. I don't think it was Texas Tech. But it might have been. I think it was later in the year, though.

One of my favorites is Tim Fox drilling Dennis Quaid filming a kick return in "Everybody's All American" - broke his collarbone.
Mainly because I can't stand Dennis Quaid, he thought he was a professional athlete!

And BTW, I have watched the '69 Rose Bowl many times, and unfortunately the myth of Tatum laying out OJ is simply that - a myth. I will say that as tough as OJ was to catch and get ahold of, I have rarely seen a top-flite back that was so easy to bring down once contact was made.
Sensibaugh has a great tackle in that game, though, on the sideline.
I doubt that there has ever been as much of a one-man team as that USC team was. Without OJ they were nothing on offense.

I seem to remember Rob Kelly and Damon Moore bringing serious lumber play in and play out...I always loved that about our safeties...may not have been the best in coverage or the fastest guys, but they always would split skulls if someone would come over the middle and always sticking their hats in on run support...love it

Okay, I have three to mention, and the first two probably don't count...

1. The hit Ray Small took from Minnesota this year. I know we're talking about hits that the Buckeyes dished out, but props to Ray for holding onto the ball.
2. Uncle Rico's crushing blow on Napolean Dynamite with the steak. I heard that monster hit actually broke the actor's nose.
3. Mike Doss had an incredible hit on a SDS running back in 2003 - the game that we held on to win. Anyways, he hit the running back at the line of scrimmage and knocked him backwards 3 yards.
