Simpson's from Coastal Carolina, Coastalbuck am I sensing some dual loyalty?

All I'm mad about is passing on Kelley, Jackson, and Sweed to take another receiver.

Let's just say I have a good vantage point on athletics at that university.
Again, I don't think you'll be disappointed in a year or two. Oh, I also used to have a good vantage point on Mercer Co. OH as well. :wink2:

Thougts on todays draft? I was beyond pissed to see both of Ellis and Dorsey get taken...our DT's are pathetic. I know we have many needs to address but that was the highest imo and we didn't get to address it. Rivers is a really good pick imo but on the other hand, I would have liked to see us trade down and get Kenwan Balmer. Not too angry about the 1st pick. However, who the heck is the 2nd guy they took? A WR from Coastal Carolina when DeSean Jackson and Limas Sweed were on the board still? Granted I've never seen this guy play, he better be a frickin' Pro Bowler for not taking another defensive player. It also shows we aren't likely to keep Chad and I don't even want to see him back. I used to be a huge fan but he pissed me off the way he disrespected Palmer and told him to "stay out of his [my] busines." Good riddance but I think Palmer is good enough to get the ball around to just about any WR's we field. However, our defense is vital to improve and we took at least one step today...the next 3 out of 4 better be a step in the same direction. I know we suck all over the board and won't likely be competitive next year anyways but still...

This has nothing to do with Chad. This is a Henry replacement. Chad is going no where.

I hope you're right. Film on him is ridiculously sick, but against who? He looks incredibly athletic, good hands and can find the ball...but before Limas Sweed? I don't know about that. And I believe we could have gotten him later on. Caldwell is a project, too, probably, when, like 07 says, we should have been stockpiling DL's. Not too concerned about missing Ellis. I think Sims has just as much upside. I just wish that we would have pushed to get Balmer when we had a chance, again as 07 said.

I've watched the kid for four years. He has every tool and then some. You can look forward to this type of play.

Google vid

His old QB plays for KC, his old safety plays for the Panthers. He comes from a solid program with solid coaching, you won't be disappointed.

Unfortunately, Jerome's acceptance in Cinci might be determined by the success of the receivers that the Bengals passed on for him..

CINCINNATI -- When he arrived at Southern California as a freshman, linebacker Keith Rivers was given uniform No. 55, which was previously worn by first-round picks Junior Seau, Willie McGinest and Chris Claiborne and is distributed judiciously. It was a sign of how high the expectations were for Rivers.
That he became a top-10 pick four years later was neither a surprise nor a source of tension. He has proved he can handle pressure. It is part of what convinced the Bengals to select him with the No. 9 overall pick.
"He'll be a good face for the organization," linebackers coach Jeff FitzGerald said.
Certainly, the Bengals can use one on defense. They ranked 27th of 32 teams in yards allowed and 24th in points allowed in 2007. They have ranked among the bottom half of the league in yards allowed in 20 of the past 23 years.

Bengals' draft as much about character as ability

CINCINNATI -- In some ways, the Cincinnati Bengals' performance during the first two rounds of the NFL draft resembled one of the losing efforts during their 7-9 season.

Southern California linebacker Keith Rivers wasn't the guy they wanted with the No. 9 pick. But while they were daydreaming about all the great things USC defensive end Sedrick Ellis was going to do for them, the New Orleans Saints traded up and grabbed him at No. 7. And if the Bengals were going to counter by picking Florida defensive end Derrick Harvey, Jacksonvillle traded up and took him at No. 8.
Easy come, easy go, right?

Bengals notebook
Lewis thinks receiver is quite a catch

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

CINCINNATI -- Jerome Simpson did not expect to be drafted until late in the second round, if at all on the first day. He went to dinner with his family last night and was driving home, oblivious to the pomp and circumstance on ESPN, when Bengals coach Marvin Lewis called to say he was the team's second pick, No. 46 overall.

"We pulled over on the highway, and we were jumping up and down crying," Simpson said.
A receiver, high jumper and long jumper at Coastal Carolina, Simpson was projected as a third-round pick at the earliest. The Bengals grabbed him in the middle of the second round, over productive receivers from bigger schools, including Malcolm Kelly of Oklahoma, Limas Sweed of Texas, DeSean Jackson of California and Mario Manningham of Michigan.

Why didn't the bengals take the trade? They could have easily found a way to waste two picks next year in the first round, and have nothing to show for it...I am beyond tired of seeing the bengals by pass some great talent for guys that are at least less known. I know Simpson might turn out to be great, but I will never understand why they have to try to prove a point by doing this every single flipping year...There is no excuse after all these years why they don't have an all world team with all the draft misses they "coulda woulda shoulda" taken..

One of these years I would like to see them address the problems they have with picks that fill voids or at least selecting the most talented picks they could have...Maybe one day..

At least they didn't draft Manningham.

yeah, I remember when all the talking heads were ripping on them for drafting some no-name stiff named Levi Jones. :roll1:

Hell that's about as relevant as Willie Anderson in 96 isn't it? Now if cincy can just continue to get one solid player every 4 or 5 years with 7 draft picks a year they will be fine as long as everyone in a bengal uniform finds the fountain of youth...Considering they have had a number 20(pick) or worse what twice in the past 20 years. I think they could have a little better evaluations before drafting..

The bengals are known for having the worst drafts in the nfl year in and year out.

Here's a funny little ESPN blog item about Corey Lynch:

Former Appalachian State safety Corey Lynch feels he was drafted by the right team today when the Cincinnati Bengals selected him with the No. 177 overall pick in the sixth round.
"I know I'll have a good fan base,'' he said.

The reason?

Lynch was the player that blocked Michigan's potential game-winning field goal with Appalachian State last season that sealed one of the biggest upsets in college football history.
Cincinnati is about 100 miles away from Columbus, Ohio, which is home of Michigan's biggest rival in Ohio State University. There also is a large Buckeye fan base in Cincinnati and Lynch knows, if anything else, he will be revered for that memorable play.
"We heard from everybody--Ohio State people, Penn State people,'' Lynch said. "I had people e-mailing me that I didn't even know. It's funny to see how much fan animosity there is towards Michigan.''
