Beanie, Baiting & Decades, oh my!

No but the Pistol formation will be used more and more since Beanie is back. That's a scary thing to think about, and VERY hard for D's to prepare for. You stack the middle against the Pistol, and Terrelle Pryor is saying "See ya!" around the edge. You keep it spread out and Beanie is bruising up the middle for a first down and big time yardage. I can't wait to see this offense at it's best!

It will take some adjusting with Wells back, but i agree with what you say. Defenses will no longer be able to ignore the running game and key on Pryor by spreading out. They will have to pick their poison.

I'm not sure how Pryor will develop, but based on how good he was playing on Sat and against USc, OSU could have a very dangerous offense. MAke no mistake, both Beanie and Pryor are once-in-a-decade talents and if they can get in a groove, OSU could have a very balanced O that averages 450ypg and 35ppg.

Also, anyone have any idea which number he would wear if he gave up the #2? Personally I kinda hope he keeps it, looks cool. Actually it would look badass if Thomas let him wear #7 instead...I guess 5 would be pretty cool though too.

To whose post are you referring?

He's talking about mine that ended the last page. People will probably disagree as many still think that MoC was the most talented freshman that they had ever seen and as freshman would be better than Wells as a junior. Still, I think that barring MoC, Wells is as talented or moreso than Byars, who IMO is OSU's 2nd best RB ever.

I just hope both players# 2 and #28 can remain healthy for this season. MOC was great in his freshman year. But Beanie can be better. It would be nice to have Wells back for his Senior year to really make this duo click for 2009.

I know i am jumping the gun here, but this is just me I guess. We are
still very young into the season of 2008. Who knows what these two players could generate for the team if they ever started firing on all cylinders. It could change things big time for OSU

once in a decade tailback at osu? once in a decade player at osu? once in a decade b10 player? once in a decade college player?

no, doubtful, nope, NO.

Do you seriously feel that way?

Ask Lloyd Carr what he thinks of Beanie. Ask Archie Griffin. Ask the hundreds of poor souls on the wrong side of his stiff arms.

I think Beanie is special. I just wish he were healthy a full season as a starter. I think he could've been very special. As in, the best.

Now that Pryor kid.. if he stays healthy he also has that chance. /on topic

lets work it this way
c wells
pittman
ross
clarrett-you know him, could have, hard to tell.
j wells
combs
wiley
pearson
george-hesiman, 1,927 yard season. over 10k on sundays.
harris-the quiet storm.
smith-game breaker, every time he touched the ball you held your breath. for young kids id compare him to the fear ted ginn struck in other teams. hes there, nope hes gone.
snow-best running back of his age who suffered from a severe tragedy and never recoverd. better than emmit smith pre injury imo.
workman
woolridge
byars-second to doug flutie in the heisman in 84, missed a vast majority of the next year with a broken bone in his foot. he was never the same after the injury, still a heck of a player after it. 50 tds,
spencer
murray
campbell
springs
logan
griffin-two heismans, 4 rose bowls, 34-100 yard games, 31 straight (no way)

that dates back about 30 years. like i said maybe a once in a decade tailback at osu. maybe. so to be a once a decade tailback hed have to be better than 3 or so...

heck lets go to the way back
glabes
brockingham
otis
ferguson
clark
cassady
janoqicz
cline
horvath

in all time rushing yards in a season beanie ranks 4th, that includes bowl games (many records dont) and an extended regular season.

career yards 15th
yards per game 6th behind (griffin, otis, smith, byars, pittman) less than three yards ahead of don clark
100 games a season-not listed
100 yard games a career-not listed.
200 yard games, tied for second with archie at 2, eddie had 5.

now when you look at archie look consider he played from 72-75 and had 5,589 yards. pete johson played from 73-76 and ran for 2,308, cornie greene 72-75 for 2,066, jeff logan 74-77 2,026. archie split a lot of carries and tons of tds with other guys. pete johnson alone had 25 tds during the 75 season, for a career total of 56, henson who played from 72-74 had 36.

is beanie wells a great back. yes. is he a once a decade player at ohio state. no. is he a once a decade tailback, maybe. that says more to the history of the tailback at ohio state than it does to beanie wells.
