Archie didn't have the size and speed that Byars had. Archie's teams relied on the fullback in short yardage situations (and who wouldn't with Pete Johnson?). Before the broken foot Byars just didn't get caught from behind. Note that I put in the caveat that I made my call based on his performance before the injury.
Finally, Archie had an OK career in the NFL. Byars became an all pro, albeit at receiver, but nonetheless an all pro.
