BCS Title Game: LSU +1.5 vs Bama (ov/un 40.5) Mon Jan 9th 8 ET, ESPN

Maybe. But the matchups were horrible this year. Beyond horrible. I think if Okie State was in that game last night the ratings would have been much better.
How is that? The rose & fiesta were both good matchups, the sugar had the name recognition and the orange was a lot better than the worst BCS matchup in most years.

That is excluding the lousy NC matchup of course.

Most years there is only one compelling BCS bowl that is not a title game.

Who wants to bet ESPN harps on the overall bowl ratings as an excuse?

Perhaps this is an indication that people are simply fed up with the BCS farce. Playoffs. Now.
I don't think that's necessarily the reason for the ratings so much as a lot of people had no desire to watch a rematch of a pretty bad football game. More times than not, the BCS system has got it right, and people will watch when it does. Personally, I'm not a big proponent of the "playoff". I would get behind a "plus one" system, as I think that keeps things reasonably fair without taking so much away from the importance of the regular season.

Bammer's gonna be hard to beat again next year. LSU may very well be right back in it. I think USC has a reasonable shot next year, and they better take advantage because the sting from those scholly restrictions are gonna start to set in in 2013. Admittedly, I payed a lot less attention to CFB as a whole this year, so my overall knowledge going into next season isn't all that great. But those are the teams that stand out to me, right now anyway. 2013 is the year I'd be pointing to for it to end...given Urban's track record in his second year elsewhere. :)

It makes a big difference to me if the 'plus 1' is a seeded 4--team playoff, as opposed to matching up the top-2 two after the January 1st/2nd bowl games. I'd much rather have a seeded 4-team playoff that incorporates two January 1 bowls as National Semifinals.

Otherwise, the 'plus one' that is created will create an unnecessary extra game for a clear-cut champion, such as 2002 tOSU or 2005 Texas.

But we do have a playoff discussion thread, where this should be debated.
