In order to one up Auburn, Tom Al-Betar was on the sidelines chatting with business associate Trent Richardson.

He was supposed to be disassociated from the Bama program. Of course when photos surfaced of his players constantly hanging out at Tom's house, suit shop or Tom helping relocated player families settle into their new nearby home, Saban declared that he was not convinced there was anything wrong with that.

There's something about these creepy old jock sniffers that is just this side of Sanduskyesque.

I'm curious to see what BP'ers think of the Alabama defense - Best in BCS history?

Only other name I can think of is 2000 Oklahoma that beat FSU 13-2.

Yes.

But not based on last night. I did not watch the game, but ANY time a team is held below 100 yards; it is because the offense did not "show up". Even in most FBS-FCS match-ups early in the season, the FCS team will crack 100 yards in the first 3 quarters. Showings like last night are aberrations.

My opinion on Alabama's defense is more a body-of-work deal. To wit: I posted this before the game.

The better team does not always win. Differential Statistical Analysis (DSA) suggests that the better team did not win the last time these teams played. The main point is that Alabama's defense is one of the best that DSA has ever measured.

To be fair, LSU's Differential Scoring Defense of 0.396 is one of the best season-long numbers of the past 10 years. But Alabama's DSD of 0.307 is un-freaking-believable. Based on that number alone this may be one of the best defenses since the 1973 Buckeyes - seriously.

On top of that, Alabama is at the top of every differential defensive category: Rushing, Passing, Passing Efficiency... choose the category, Alabama is on top.

As for the DSA prediction for this game:

_____________Points__________Yards_
Alabama_____13.9-17.9_______301-334
LSU_________11.5-13.2_______189-194

No.

If they played an offense with a pulse, I'd agree. They certainly have the athletes, but I don't think I'd say "Best of BCS Era."

#119 Kent State
#95 Penn State
#96 North Texas
#29 Arky
#105 Florida
#98 Vandy
#114 Ole Miss
#104 Tenn
#73 LSU X's 2
#85 Miss St
#100 Auburn

*Also played 1AA Ga. Southern, who scored 21

I still like LSU's defense better, this year.

Fixed it. They love to cover every little thing about the SEC, so I'm sure this will get its due.
Well, of course. I'm sure an 'Outside the Lines' piece is in work.

Rather hard to say against that offensive game-plan, isn't it?
Their defense is scary good, but yeah, against that offensive "gameplan", I think Minnesota could have won that game. I only watched about ten minutes of game action before I had to tap out, but that was horrendous. The option they tried to run a few times literally made me laugh-out-loud. To me, that gameplan was even worse than the Glendale debacle. At least tOSU could say a wrench was thrown in the gears by losing their elite deep threat on the first play. LSU seemed to think that was going to work at some point and had no intentions of adjusting when east-west run after east-west run failed.

As far as BCS title games go, I think tOSU's performance in 2003 against a Miami juggernaut was more impressive in a game-performance sense...even if not nearly as dominating statistic-wise. It was really as if LSU simply was not trying.

Bama's D allowed 3.39 yards per play this year.

NC State allowed 3.47 per play in 2004. (But they went 5-6)

USC allowed 3.61 in 2008. (12-1)

TCU allowed 3.61 in 2002. (10-2)

Ohio State allowed 3.64 in 2007. (11-2)
Yes, but only the Crimson Tide did it against a mighty mighty SECSECSEC!!!! schedule.

I didn't watch this game. Not a second of it. I didn't check in on the score. I vetoed my friends idea to go to a trivia night at a sports bar because I didn't want to be around the game. I didn't even know the score until after reading through this thread.

And I'm damn happy I did it.
