BCS Standings & Title Game Contenders - 2010 season

Even if the Buckeyes are ranked ahead of teams like Oklahoma, LSU, Auburn, Boise, TCU, etc., they are still stealing points here and there (not just in the computers, but in the human polls) that the Buckeyes could stand to gain by any of those teams losing.

I'm not worried about this scenario. I think if the Bucks win out, then they will go to the NC game. I mean, we aren't Boise St (no offense). I don't think there has ever been a time where a Buckeye team won, and then fell in the polls.

2003 they did. When we beat NC State we went from 2 to 5. Never got back to 2. In 2007 we went from 10th to 11th after our first win. In 2008 we went from 2nd to 3rd after our first win...then we went from 13th to 14th after beating Troy. Last year we went from 11th to 13th after beating Toledo.

Last year, we also dropped after squeaking out a win to what ended up being a very good Navy team.

I stand corrected, thanks.

Well, if Oregon, Nebraska/Oklahoma, LSU/Auburn, and Michigan State (and Ohio State) all go undefeated then it's going to be a logjam at the top.

I think the best chances we have of being leapfrogged is by the champions of the SEC (LSU, Auburn) or Big 12 undefeated teams. That's tough because those games will happen after we beat Michigan.

Can't blame the computers.

The schedule:

Marshall (1-4)
Miami Fla (3-2)
Ohio (3-3)
Eastern Mich (0-6)
Illinois (3-2)
Indiana (3-2)

That right there is awful (13-19). Unfortunately, the Canes aren't holding up their end of the deal, and the schedule makers whiffed with two MAC teams and a C-USA squad.

Agreed.

It seemed like a tough schedule pre season but it is weaker than circus lemonade now. It wasn't by design but that is the way it worked out.

The way I am looking at it is this;

If OSU is a true NC caliber team they will beat a couple of fringe top 20 teams on the road and run the table. OSU's current #1 ranking and slight bump in SOS from Iowa and Wisky will ensure they are top 2.

If they lose to any team left on this schedule they don't deserve, nor will they likely get, a shot at the NC. I mean lets be fair, they will have had to beat a middle of the road ACC team at home in September, a top 15-20 Wisconsin team on the road in October and a 15-20 Iowa team on the road in November to play for a NC. The rest of the teams on the schedule were either actual MAC teams or currently MAC level in performance (scUM, Purdue, Minny, IU even PSU this year) Illinois may be a pretty good team by the time its all over. We don't play Sparty.

I know some will but imo, if OSU loses 1 game then we have no right to complain about not being in the NC game.

OK, but have they ever dropped after a win against a conference team? Its far from certain, there's a lot of football left to play, we have to both take care of business and run the table and even then it might not happen - but the chances improved this weekend for my dream season - Nebraska vs. Ohio State for the NC.

I hope this doesn't start a panic attack among some of the Buckeye faithful, but an article showing what the latest BCS standings look like have tOSU at #5.

http://www.the-ozone.net/football/2010/Wisconsin/BCSChart.htm

This computation does not include the results from one poll used to determine the computer ranking, but it's clear that some formulas being used do not favor the Bucks.

I assume that future victories by TCU and BS won't count as much in the computer rankings. Still, #5 is a tough pill to swallow when most human polls have tOSU at #1.

That would be such an epic NC game.

I'll admit, when I saw this mock BCS projection with tOSU at number 5, I freaked. But it makes sense at this point in the season. Miami needs to pick it up. And for Christ's sake, win a damn game EMU! You're killing us! And as far as Boise at number 1, their opponents have a combined 12-11 record right now, so I guess it's fair, but it is all downhill from here for them.
