BCS Standings & Title Game Contenders - 2010 season

Looking at the remaining schedules for teams #1-#6, we could end up with quite a few undefeated teams at the end of the season.

I'm glad we're on top now because it would be tough to jump up from here on out.

Here's to seven more hard-fought W's.:osu:

I agree. I was really surprised how good the offenses looked last night in the FLA/LSU slugfest. LSU really struggled offensively against WVU at home. Maybe the defensive strength isn't quite there relative to the last few seasons for the SEC. I think LSU has a good defense and I didn't expect FLA to put up almost 30 points on them. I have been saying all season that while Bama has a good defense it is nothing like last years, from which they lost 9 starters.

I'd still like a crack at the SEC's best this year - only way to get that monkey off our back.
I'll take a title win over revenge... If we have to wait until the Tennessee home-home in a few years for our SEC crack, I won't care... as long as we get a title or two. Not to mention, I'd rather face off against the more worthy opponent than necessarily whatever the SEC has to offer. Although an undefeated LSU or Auburn would be quite fun to face off against, I just wouldn't anticipate those two actually finishing undefeated.

Of course this is contingent on our winning out and reaching the title game... which is immensely pre-mature.

By run a train on them, I meant all teams would win. I've been mildly impressed with Boise's defense, especially their defensive line. I'm very impressed with Bo Pelini defenses since he's been in Nebraska. Alabama's defense is okay. Although they did give up 35 yesterday. Our defense proved it last year. It will be interesting to see the Harris Poll later today I believe.
I agree. Also, your point on Bama's defense is spot on. Since the Penn State game, I noticed that they allowed too much yardage when compared with last year's team. Its not the dominant defense that we'd expected, I had told my 'Bama friend that for a while now. He kinda had blinders on (esp. after Florida last week). I am not sure where I stand on them against LSU and Auburn. I expect the Tide to win both match-ups based on recent hype/perception, but when I look at reality I see an inconsistent passing game, and a defense that allows teams to get inside the 20 with semi-regularity.

LSU has some great athletes. Given a month to prepare, even Les can prepare a decent game plan - and you'll have to deal with a bunch of defensive beasts. Not saying you will not win, but LSU with a month to get ready is not BSU.

I have more faith in Jim Tressel with this team than I do Les Miles with that team.

It wouldn't be the same as the last matchup, that's for damn sure. Take away a couple games in JT's 100-win career and he has been ridiculously good at creating the perfect gameplan.

So would a one-loss SEC champ trump the other contenders? I think not this year.

I don't think so either. Like I said above, the voters put the SEC's undefeated team at #7 behind other conference undefeated teams. If they rank the undefeated teams that way, how will they rank the 1 loss teams?

I think the SEC mystique is starting to wear off.

There can be a maximum of 7 undefeated teams left this season

This week their are 13, last week there was 18 and the week before there was 25, so in the 2 weekends that I've monitored it so far the same percentage of undefeated teams (28%) has fallen both weeks. I'm interested to see if that trend continues (another 3-4 teams losing this weekend) I expect that number to go down a bit with no undefeated vs undefeated games though

That one loss SEC team is fresh off the loss. Factor in some more marquee wins and an SEC title game win, and I could see them passing up teams like Oklahoma and Boise and TCU.
I don't see any one-loss team passing by an undefeated Oklahoma. They would own wins over Texas (yes they are weak but probably 9-3 or 8-4 weak), Oklahoma State, Florida State, Air Force, Cincinnati and Missouri. Plus the Big-12 Title game, which is probably Nebraska. That'd be a great schedule to go through. I understand that they haven't won convincingly; the Bearcats, Utah State and Air Force were not pretty wins, but they're still wins.

Also, TCU still has to play against Utah and Air Force, which will be a premier match-up.

That's true, if a team gets out of the B12 undefeated, it will have a good SOS. I guess I would rank undefeated conference winners this year: SEC, Bigten, Pacten, Big12. However, I don't think there will be an undefeated team in the SEC and probably not in the Pacten either (playing 9 in conference games with defense an afterthought lets chaos reign). So I guess if we take care of business, this means I'm predicting tOSU vs big12 champ - here's hoping it is Nebraska!

The ESPN Mock BCS has OSU at 5, behind Boise, Oregon, Oklahoma and TCU.

Jesse Palmer and Robert Smith picked tOSU as #1, while Craig James picked OSU #2.

They said because it's based 1/3 on a computer poll, which has OSU ranked #10, and Bosie #2.

A long way to go, and a lot will change the season moves along. SOS will shoot OSU right back up... as long as they take care of business.

And finally our boy Mark May says it's embarrassing to see Boise at #1, and tOSU and Oregon are the top 2.

"Were those computers made in Boise?" he says.... lol!

Isn't the first BCS release next weekend? If so, what the heck is ESPN releasing any polls for when none of the games next week have been played? Truly idiotic move.
