BCS Guru (incorrectly) projected LSU-Oklahoma State in Title Game

I agree with you.

Since I just saw the SEC championship game yesterday and Alabama was not participating in it I know they are, at best, the 3rd place team in their own conference. As such, it is impossible for them to be one of the two best teams in the country.

Leagues have chosen to have "championship" games. I think they need to be held accountable to them.

So you are of the school that the NC game should be played between the best two teams, unless ...............

This is some kinda sarcasm right?

Let's end this crap about "the two best teams". How many Super Bowls feature the "two best teams"? Many, many times the conference championship games are better matchups. Same with LCS in baseball, the Eastern and Western Finals in the NBA, or Final Four matchups prior to the title game. It's just a fact of sports. If you're second best, and you meet the best team too early, then you're out.

BCS fans have for years told us that the "whole season is a playoff". The BCS themselves claims "everygamecounts". Fine. If it's a "playoff" and every game "counts", then Bama blew their shot on their own home field. Tough luck. It's no different than losing the NFC Championship on your own home field then watching the Super Bowl from your own couch while a lesser team gets pummeled.

If you are that strict with your reasoning then so did okst when they lost to Iowa State and Lsu as the only Undefeated team is the National Champs already without the game.

I understand. But you are saying that "not conf A champion = not better than conf B champion".

That is simply not the case. See Ohio's undefeated BCS team against the not SEC Conference Champ a few years ago. :wink2: You are saying that not being a champion of your conference disqualifies you. There is no clause in any conference championship that says that the non-winners give up their status as a good ball club. There is nothing to be held "accountable" for, as there is no rule or procedure or policy that says that.

Again, as a fan I want to see Okie State and LSU. But I think Bama would take Okie State.

The whole point is not to determine who's #1 & #2, it's to determine the two teams that might be #1 so they can settle the matter on the field. Given the teams being discussed, how can anyone believe that Bama has a claim at being #1? The question of who's better between LSU and Alabama has already been settled.

Honestly, Oklahoma State doesn't have a claim either. They're not going to cancel the NCG though and since they haven't actually played LSU this season a at least their claim is less illegitimate than Alabama's.

Ok, fine. We'll dig even deeper and say no matter which team makes it to the National Title Game, if they beat LSU.... Split National Titles.

Only kidding, of course.

btw...

there's been talking that one of the computers (wolfe) has been reported wrong, SI orginally said Bama was 2, can't find it again, but it was disputed, and possibly Okie St is 2...if that's the case...

If Wolfe has Okie 2:

Bama has to be 53 pts ahead of Okie St in Harris Poll

If Wolfe has Bama 2:

Okie St has to be 5 pts ahead of Bama in Harris Poll

The BCS is supposed to be about setting up the 2 BEST teams but it's really about the two highest ranked teams.

If it was really about finding the best team it wouldn't be a 1 game winner takes all it would be a best of 3 5 or 7 to minimize the chance of an "upset" where the #2 team comes out with the win.

Ugh. Give me the argument that finding the best team requires a playoff format, but don't go throwing baseball/basketball playoff formats out... :sick1:

i firmly believe that Oklahoma State does not deserve to play Iowa State again for the national championship.

Yeah, because an expanded field rarely produces upsets...

I'm not saying it's exciting I'm just saying winning one game doesn't really find the best team, just who had the better night.
