BCS Chances (El Gigante Merge)

Ive heard that since we've been to the Fiesta twice recently, that the Orange and Fiesta bowl might make a behind-the-camera deal and have the Orange pick OSU...
sounds good to me. We don't recruit very often from Arizona anyway...
What you should not overlook is the power of Nike. I agree, when you compare Ohio State and Oregon in terms of marketability, there is no comparison. What worries me, a little, is the fact that the "BCS is about money." Phil Knight is the biggest booster of Oregon athletics, that has me concerned. On the field, I have no doubts as to who is the superior team.
interesting point. I still think the pockets of OSU are deep enough, and Oregon is a more embarrassing team (considering how they got waxed in their tough challenge)... OSU probably should have beaten the #2 and maybe even #4 team

Ohio State vs. Notre Dame in the Fiesta would be an incredible way to end the season.

Herby is predicting ND v. PSU in Fiesta

and OSU v. VT in Orange

His thought was that Fiesta has first choice after Rose and would select ND and then PSU. Orange is next who gets ACC champ and would select us with next pick..leaving the sugar with SEC champ vs. Big Least Champ.

but his guess probably isn't any better than anyone else's

I think FSU will beat Va Tech in the ACC championship....

I think this for 1 reasons.

1) Tech cannot beat a team with a good to great defense

Honestly I don't want to play Va Tech because I live no joke 30 minutes from Blacksburgh and it would suck royally to have to hear shit from these annoying ass hokie fans for a month and half. (God Forbid 8 months)

With Miami losing, we just got ourselves a BCS bid...becuase now NOBODY will be ranked ahead of us in the BCS that will not win their conference...so there is NO WAY that 2 teams BELOW us are going to get at-larges over us. We are in the BCS...no doubt about that. The question is where. Obviously every ND and tOSU fan wants to play each other...but will the powers that be let that happen?

By the way...Penn State has got to be pissed with Fresno State turning the ball over and giving the game away to USC. Penn State was looking at a National Championship game with Texas. How sweet would that have been? The 2 teams in the Rose Bowl are the teams we lost to. After today's performences...there is no way anybody can say that Notre Dame is better than Ohio State with a stright face.

I don't think the Fiesta Bowl would pass us up. They know what kind of atmosphere the Buckeye fans at the '03 and '04 Fiesta Bowls created.

The only way we lose out is if

1) The Orange Bowl takes Penn State instead of Ohio State
and
2) The Fiesta Bowl then caves in to Pac-10 presure and takes Oregon over Ohio State.

I don't see this happening for a couple reasons. One, I think OSU is a more attractive team to the Orange Bowl. Tons of OSU alumni in Florida. And the Fiesta Bowl knows how well OSU travels, especially with John Junker being from Cleveland. Oregon vs. ND has absolutely no appeal to anyone.

you know, virginia tech could very well lose to florida state in the acc championship game, and lsu could very well lose to georgia in the sec championship game. if this happens, ohio state probably moves into the top four of the bcs, which means we no longer have to worry about the slim chance of not making it to a bcs bowl game. also, notre dame has no gimme next week against stanford.

edit: in my opinion, the one crucial game next week is usc-ucla. usc must win that game.

The rich get richer

Here's a nice thought for your Sunday morning:

IF the Buckeyes get a BCS at-large berth (don't like counting chickens), then here is a run-down of how many at-large teams each conference has placed in the BCS since 1998 when the Rose Bowl joined the Bowl Alliance to form the most hated TLA (3-letter acronym) in sports today (BCS).

Big 10____________5
Big 12____________3
SEC______________3
Pac 10____________2
ACC______________0
Big East___________0
Other_____________3

That is a PILE of CHEESE ($$$$) that the Big 10 is raking in.

This also means that in our Bowl Games pitting SEC #s 2 and 3 vs. BIG 10 #s 2 and 3 respectively; it is more often than not the BIG 10 #s 3 and 4 that play in those games.
