BCS Chances (El Gigante Merge)

So if USC loses any chance the BCS decides to make a playoff and we could just settle all this bullshit on the field.
great observation man. Auburn proved that the BCS only changes when their precious teams get screwed. You can whine all you want about The Citadel, but there was very little separating the OU and Auburn schedule.

If USC loses, a change of some sort is much more likely.

The only thing that worries me is if the Pac-10 pressures the BCS to give the Oregon Fucks the second at-large spot.

That would be so incredibly stupid. If Oregon makes a BCS game, then they will get annihilated. When they played USC, they lost by 31 points. USC is a good team, but they aren't that great (in my opinion). Oregon has had an extremely easy schedule, and I believe that if they make a BCS bowl, that they will be crushed.

you know... i'm comforted by one thing after reading all of these nervous posts about bcs possibilities: our team did what they needed to do to put themselves in a prime spot to be selected. all we can do is sit back and watch. everything is out of our team's reach now. after losing two rather early, they battled back and made the best possible case for being a bcs at-large selection. there isn't anything more that we could ask of our team. regardless of whether they make it to a bcs game or not, i am very happy with our team. on the heels of defeat, they showed the determination, courage, and camaraderie to make the best of their season.

Im with you man. But on College Gameday they said that the Pac-10 most likely will pressue the BCS for that bid.

herbstreit on sportscenter just brought up the scenario of the orange bowl taking psu, which leaves the fiesta bowl the proposition of taking oregon. the pac 10 would likely create a lot of pressure to select oregon, and oregon is much closer to arizona (as if it makes that much of a difference; osu would still travel and outspend oregon).
the BCS is about money, which is why we don't have playoffs. Do not overlook the fact that Oregon can't match 1/3 of OSU's TV fanbase either. The potential for commercials, memorabilia, etc is so incomparable between Oregon and OSU, that they would never land the spot over us. If it were Miami or VTech, I could maybe see it. But they are savvy businessmen.

a comforting thought: when is the last time you saw the pac-10 dominating the national landscape on an ABC coverage map? when is the last time you didn't see a big-ten team doing that?

Don't think anyone should be nervous I think we have that shit on lockdown, it is just a matter of who we will play.

If Oregon or Fresno st. make a BCS game b4 we do, I think that hell will have frozen over.

USC loses today to fresno, and then the impossible result: Texas loses to the Aggies. Then we seek revenge on the tame cats in the rose bowl. Would we rake in twice as much money for the big ten?

No way we would ever jump USC, Texas, and LSU (assuming they all have one loss) with 2 losses, I don't think.

OSU did not travel well to Tempe last time...

I went to the Fiesta Bowl in 2004 and can attest that the crowd was 2/3 Kansas State fans.

Local word was that the Fiesta Bowl was disappointed with the OSU turnout in 2004 and it was a mistake to invite them back a second year in a row. This may make make them reticent to invite them for the 3rd time in 4 years.

OTOH, if they understood the hype\excitment we had with the ND home and home series in 95/96, they would invite us in a heartbeat.

It definitely depends on who we play...if it's Notre Dame, people will travel cross-country. If it's Oregon or West Virginia, maybe not as much, but still more than most.

What you should not overlook is the power of Nike. I agree, when you compare Ohio State and Oregon in terms of marketability, there is no comparison. What worries me, a little, is the fact that the "BCS is about money." Phil Knight is the biggest booster of Oregon athletics, that has me concerned. On the field, I have no doubts as to who is the superior team.

after USC in the pac-10, there is nary a team any better than a N'Western or Mich St. Oregon's SOS has to be crap. The pollsters have to know if they had played our schedule, they would have lost at least 4 games.
The real screwup in the BCS this year is a Beig Least team gettin an auto bid.
