BCS Chances (El Gigante Merge)

So with our win today, who else should we be rooting for, other than the obvious like Michigan State???

We also would like to have:

Auburn over Bama (just to move us up in the human polls and make sure they dont creep back in)

Ole Miss over LSU (would give LSU 2 losses and put them under us)

Miami to Georgia Tech (2 losses would put them under us)

Syracuse to find a Dovan McNabb in their QB and somehow miraculously beat ND

And jsut for kicks - Fresno St. over USC

Assuming USC and Texas win out and make the Rose Bowl, and ND beats Stanford, if Penn State wins today and gets the automatic, we actually want Cryami to win either lose before the ACC Championship game, or win the ACC Championship if they play in it.

Since Alabama is getting stomped in the Iron Bowl, it looks like our only problem is if Va. Tech would make it to #4 (earning an automatic bid if the first 3 are all BCS conference champions) in the BCS. That can only happen with a Penn State loss (which puts us in) or a Cryami loss to FSU.

edit - with Miami's loss, only the ACC winner will get a BCS bid. tOSU should be in the BCS for sure now.

With a Miami loss, the Buckeyes are guaranteed in. Va Tech would play FSU for the ACC chamiponship. Miami would be out and either Va Tech or FSU would be in. The loser is automatically out. If LSU wins the SEC, they are in, if they lose, they will have two losses and they are out.

If all higher ranked teams win out, the Buckeyes will have a strong chance to still get in.

The Fiesta has the first pick, and will take ND. The Orange will take Miami (ACC champ), Sugar will take SEC champ. The next pick goes to Fiesta. They will probably take PSU. Next pick goes to Orange and they have a choice....Take OSU for a rematch of the 2002 NC game and high ratings, or take Va Tech for a rematch of an ACC game already played with a team that does not travel as well as the Bucks, or take Oregon (if they win out) which does not travel well at all.

In my opinion, it is a no brainer, and the Orange will take the Buckeyes and their is a chance that the Fiesta might even take us over PSU to play ND.

there is no way that the orange would pick virginia tech over ohio state to play miami. if the miami-vtu game had been close, then perhaps vtu would be chosen. oregon? is there a team that is farther away from the orange bowl than oregon? oregon does not travel and spend like ohio state, too. furthermore, the 2002 nc game went into overtime, and it was controversial. miami fans still clamor about it, and the orange bowl reps know it. osu travels and spends as well as, if not better, than any school out there. it's also a cherry on top that osu and miami sport two premier defenses.

also, i highly agree with stag that the fiesta will be between penn state and notre dame, unless notre dame loses to stanford next week. yes, i think that the stanford-notre dame game may result in an upset. anyway, a notre dame-penn state match is too tantalizing for the fiesta to pass up. these two powerhouses had some down periods and are now resurging. each coach carries a swagger, and it will be a matchup of a great defense versus a great offense.

it's quite simple to me: if ohio state's competition for an at-large bid to the orange bowl is virginia tech and oregon, the buckeyes have to be a lock. i see no other way around it.

Your selection sequence is NOT correct.

If USC and Texas play in the Rose, the ACC winner goes to the Orange and the SEC winner goes to the Sugar. Then the selection order is:

1. Fiesta (probably ND)
2. Orange (probably Penn St)
3. Fiesta (probably tOSU)
4. Sugar (stuck with Big East winner)

WE ARE IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unless some crazy voter would rather have Oregon and want to lose major bucks for their BCS bowl game.

What he said.

With Alabama and Miami out of the way we will move up in the human polls and subsequently the BCS, big time this week.

This is when they will start to jive the human polls up with the BCS poll. Also note how many of the national media are talking about us as the 2nd at large already. Its a done deal imo. Miami's loss clinches it.
