Let's hear it for those "muscular wallets".

The Fiesta Bowl is considered a lock to exercise its option on revived Notre Dame, which would play in a BCS game for the first time since the 2000 season, when it got clobbered by Oregon State 41-9. This time, the Irish figure to be more competitive. Their likely opponent is Ohio State. Virginia Tech and Oregon also are candidates, but the muscular wallets of traveling Buckeyes fans should be the trump card.

Fuck Virginia Tech. They played one good team and got the shit kicked out of them in their house. Oregon???Oregon??? Oh yeah, they only lost to USC by what 30? We all know the Pac-10 is such a great conference...

I heard on the radio here yesterday (keep in mind that its NY Sports talk, and CFB is not huge here by any means) that the BCS selection process has a clause to allow for the best match-up possible, if such a need arise.

For example, the BCS can 86 the normal selection process (detailed previously) to match-up OSU-ND if there's a big outcry (and $$$) for the game.

Anyone ever hear of this? I surely never did ..

I've heard this before, but if Pitt/Utah wasn't enough to prompt such an escape clause, I don't know what possibly could.

Well, I'm sure it was thought of, but look at it this way: if you match-up Pitt & Utah, you have only one horrible, awful, BCS Bowl. HOWEVER, if you split them up, you're making 2 bad Bowl games because Utah & Pitt's opponents each would be 2 TD favorites.

Utah might of been able to hang with some of the big boys last year, but that was the best place for them, b/c it was pitt's only chance of making a game with any of the big boys.

I actually feel bad for the SEC team that wins that conference b/c what are they going to have to look forward to in the bowl game WVU or S. FLA. Give me a break. I wonder if they could back out and go play a Big Ten team in the Capital one bowl. It would be a much better match up.

Considering the D1AA teams they play every year, I doubt they really care so long as the money is right.

LMAO, but really that is the non-conference slate where they want to try and build up their confidence, I see why teams do that, I think it is stupid, but I see why it is done.

But I just think coming from a major conference they would want to play someone from a major conference.

Yes, this has been around for a little while. But the self-interests of the individual bowls usually prevent them rom arranging overall matchups different than the pecking order would create.

For example, say the Sugar Bowl would get stuck with Auburn-South Florida (who gets a BCS bid with 3 more wins). They would suggest that South Florida get paired up with ND, which would give them decent ratings regardless of who ND plays, and drastically improve the Sugar Bowl by giving them a Big-10 team. The Fiesta Bowl would politely say 'screw you'.
