Game Thread BCS Championship Game, tOSU vs. Florida - Jan 8th

Florida not the first?

A snippet from todays College Football news article.....

http://cfn.scout.com/2/608565.html

And they didn?t go unbeaten, either ? While Florida fans will deservedly be obnoxious until early April as the dream of dreams has come true holding the national titles in both basketball and football, it might not have been a first. Kentucky is listed in the NCAA record book as the 1950 football national champion after winning the Sugar Bowl over Oklahoma. Back in the day, national champions were crowned before the bowls. The 1951 hoops team won the NCAA Men?s Basketball Tournament, meaning that UK also could lay claim to the double-double.

The original poster's point was about the class of the UF players, not their fans.

I find it funny how fans, who have never done a damned thing to win or lose a game, always seem to take these things so personally. Like they (the UF fans) had a hand in the victory, and we (the OSU fans) are somehow responsible for the defeat. If the UF players want to crow, fine - they won the game and they deserve the credit. The UF fans? They were just along for the ride, same as us.

No doubt you're in the "Don't call Ohio State "We"" Camp, yes? Me too. Even though I am an alum, I didn't play football, so I can't say "we."

This time, it was not my fault. The previous two losses (Texas and Penn State, 2005) were the last two times I wore #13 jerseys. I did not wear (or even touch) a #13 jersey since then.

I'm not superstitious. I figured I could wear #13 - no big deal. A friend was getting married on September 10, 2005. Don't worry - I still give him shit for it. So we were all hanging out afterward, watching the game. About the beginning of the 4th quarter, people start changing back into "normal" clothes. So I changed out of my tux and back into #13. D'OH!!!

So I figured I'd wear #13 white jersey a few weeks later. Ohio State is at Penn State. D'OH!!! Just on a whim, I quit wearing either of those jerseys. (I have plenty more to choose from.)

They won the rest of 2005, and all of 2006. I didn't touch either of my #13 jerseys all season. That includes Monday.

So, again, I apologize for the 2005 losses. But I deny any involvement in Monday's game.

Reality Bites!

Please reread the Championship game dialogue prior to the game. OK, what did you see? OSU fans bashing the SEC, yes? Yes. Now, fast forward to the Rose Bowl, and see the #2 (by a hair) B10 rep (Meatchicken), get blown away by a USC team that lost to a mediocre UCLA. Now, fast forward to Jan 8 (now will live in infamy until we can blot it out with a NC), and OSU, the #1 in the planet gets torched by a team that had maybe 4 players that could have cracked our starting line-up (opinon of Cali-Buck only).

And the game itself........folks, we got outsped (a word?), out hustled, out hit, and out-coached, and flat out-played. Our band was better than theirs, though  .

LJB is correct. None of us (nor the Gator faithful) played one down, took one snap, or did anything than cheer on their respective teams. They deserve to crow. And between the 'Big Two', the B10 deserves every bit we got. Neither of OSU or UM carried the banner of the B10 very well.

So let them gloat, payback is a bitch, and definitely best served cold. Use it as bulletinboard material - Meyer did for his players for the game. We'll have our chance again. Hopefully we'll make the best of it. As it was said in "Platoon" - 'take the pain'.

:gobucks3: :gobucks4: :banger: I bleed scarlet & gray in victory AND defeat (more so in defeat, I'm afraid). So should y'all also........feel sorry for the seniors and the other players, as they lived the debacle. :oh:

Have you visited the Gator sites? There's a bit more going on there than mere celebratory high-5s. They're not content to dump on Ohio State...no...it's the entire Big 10. And they are savoring the OSU band playing the Titanic theme at halftime, drawing the none-too-flattering parallel.

Now switch roles....had we won by a similar margin, would people here be slamming the entire SEC? Mocking Florida, their band, and their fans? I know I am too biased to answer, but maybe the non-Buckeye fans who post here would like to give us an objective opinion about how we stack up to the Gator web sites. (It needs to be said that those who traveled to Glendale have reflected very positively on the Florida fans there.) And hell...the site I visited is reserved for SEC-East! When registering, you have the option of indicating your favorite team...if it's not an SEC-East team, it's not on the drop-down list. How frikkin narrow-minded is that?
Yes, we would be flaming them hard..... see Miami, and ND for example. All fans dispise all other fans when you can brag. Now we are getting dumped on and it sucks.

Doing what fans and sportwriters do best I'll second guess. The fans ours and scUM's bought into the hype that Nov 18 was armmageddon. The two best teams on and on the hype in the media went...Florida and their fans heard all the hype and just wanted a chance for their team to represent ...Looking back scUM and tOSU were as flat for their Bowl Game as they were pumped for Nov 18. Revenge against Florida is really misplaced..no more games for this team. 2007 becomes a whole new story which I'm sure will have many twists and turns concentrating on taking revenge on Fla. will serve no purpose, working to win the Big 10 etc. is the biggest goal this team should have.

I used to be more picky about that, but sometimes I'm just lazy and say we. Like when my wife asked how the was the game? I usually answer "we won" or "we lost." I guess I don't worry much about it because I am not delusional enough to think I influence the games. I generally try to stay away from the "we" stuff.

still having a bit of trouble believing that really happened...

anyway. i remember saying back while we were waiting to find out who our opponent was that they should just decline the bowl because they had nothing more to prove...

looks like i was right.

someone said that it wouldn't be fair to the kids. now i ask, was it fair to have to subject them to THAT?

umm... no offense, but i disagree. if fans weren't a part of the team, you would never see coaches cajole them into being more vocal at the games. if you have ever been to a game and screamed your lungs out, you can say 'we' because you were doing your part to help them win.
