Game Thread BCS Championship Game, tOSU vs. Florida - Jan 8th

Who said Michigan would have won the National Championship if they beat OSU?

The way I see it, the National Championship, right now, is a tie. Florida, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Louisville and Boise State all have an equal (maybe an edge to Boise State) claim to the title.

Boise State will (and probably should) get a few AP votes.

I'm proud to be a buckeye!!! Proud to have enjoyed Troy Smith and Teddy for 3 straight years tearing it up. Bummer night.

Great team, coach, recruiting and spirit. Seriously there are only a few teams consistently in the same class with tOSU..

Take a deep breath, now.. Basketball Season.

GO BUCKS!!

Boone and Barton were absolutely terrible. Troy couldn't do anything with guys in his face.

It took too long for the d-line to get any pressure on Leak. The 20 minute stretch of second half of Q2 and Q3 were back to basics and we excelled. However, that was when we had Troy's fumble and the 4th down failure (my beef there is with not sneaking it).

Grant was bad and looks like a special teams player at best. I think Homan could have done OK against the pass.

I've always had the problem with DBs playing so far off the ball that we're now seeing with our 3rd DC under Tressel. I especially feel bad for Jenkins who is an exceptionally talented corner (best since Winfield) that is not allowed to roam.

I think the talent level of the teams were close to equal but you have to look at the relative strength of conferences. We weren't really tested all year and maybe got a little to complacent with our style of ball. Florida's style had worked to a lesser degree but against tougher competition and their gameplan was superior tonight.

Note: I don't know what people's feelings are on this, but I don't give a flying fuck how any team in the Big 10 does except for the Buckeyes. Conference loyalty is bullshit to me. I think we were lulled to sleep by the rest of the Big 10.

This is a jumbled mess but I'm tired.

Tough night Buckeyes, but the sun will come up tomorrow. I felt shitty about the loss to Texas until I learned the next day that Rod Dedeaux passed away. I felt great about the Rose Bowl this year until I learned of Danelo's passing.

While we love it, in the end it isn't the world. JT can win a NC, but it isn't the greatest thing he does.

Aas far as what went wrong, imo:

1. TGII's absence
2. JT getting away from his philosophy. Going for it on 4th down didn't kill him, but it set up the momentum for the Gators to run away with it. If he did traditional Tresselball, at least it is a manageable situation going into the lockerroom.

Great season all the same. Dust yourselves off and get ready for a run in March.
thank you sir!! BTW our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your SC family for the loss of Delano....

Back on subject....JT HAS own a NC (2003)...and the key point that you did miss is that tommorrow when we wake up is, yes we did lose today, but scUM still sucks!!!

I hate placing blame on any one(or two) people, but if this is the "what went wrong" thread, this is where most of the blame needs to fall on offense. They were embarassed...plain and simple.

Last post for the night, just chiming in about the running game.

I think Tress figured he could get more balanced when they came back. But that never happened, after the Pitt TD Florida didn't bite, and continued to pin their ears back and come. With Ginn out,Gonzo was a marked man,but they still elected to pass. Can't really blame them though because protection has always been more than adequate this season. Of course on the next series after the 3 and out the bucks ran on first down and florida was prepared :(.(all credit to the gators)

Would really like to see Pitt and Gonzo return for their senior years. Ted Ginn Jr. was simply impeccable at tOSU. He will be deeply missed if he decides to go.,thanks teddy:wink2:

You are so on crack. Too bad your bitterness won't allow you to admire what Florida accomplished this year. They call you halfassin'?

1) First it was the coaching... the coaches seamed to be set that their gameplan was best suited to beat Florida.. They didn't even attempt to try a different game plan. I mean we run the ball to our only touchdown, and what do we do the next time out? throw three straight times...

2) Our O-line got destroyed tonight.. I didn't believe it and it pains me to say this but they were just simply the fastest defense we'll ever see for a long time.

3) On defense I thought we played our hearts out, but the soft zone was awful. We have good DB's.... why not man up and get after the mistake prone leak?? instead our DB's were lined up 5-15 yards off the ball giving them all day to get simple 10 yards... But I guess this can feed into Coaching and the gameplan.

4) It was just Florida's Turn and night... I mean thier kicker sucks but tonight he nails two 40+ field goals... their kickers have only had 9 touchbacks all season, but this night they kicked almost ALL the kickoffs outta the endzone... it just everything florida didn't do well during the season they were able to do tonight.. They played perfectly. Good Job Florida...

also I don't think we took it lightly.... I think we knew they were able to beat us, and by no means do I think we thought we had it bagged up...

I agree with the DC problems, as I've stated several times above. Of the three we've had under Tressel, Dantonio was BY FAR the best (no small coincidence that it was under his watch that we won the NC, IMO). I think Heacock's usually pretty good, but I think his game plan tonight left A LOT to be desired. Snyder was only here for one year, and I wasn't impressed at all with what I saw--he was by far the worst of the three IMO.

Man alive, very tough game tonight guys. For some reason, Florida just looked like they were the better team for tonight. Their defense was sick, Ginn's loss seemed huge for you guys, but I am an outsider, so I will let you guys handle the analysis. Anyway, as I said before the game, I really enjoyed following your guys this year and last year, and I am a big fan of Troy Smith, I think he was a great player for you guys, and grew to be a better person. So congrats on your fantastic season and we'll see you guys back at the top next year or the year after at the least.

Thanks for the kind words. I would actually be interested in the analysis of someone more impartial, though. Any thoughts on what went wrong?
