Game Thread BCS Championship Game, tOSU vs. Florida - Jan 8th

Tough night Buckeyes, but the sun will come up tomorrow. I felt shitty about the loss to Texas until I learned the next day that Rod Dedeaux passed away. I felt great about the Rose Bowl this year until I learned of Danelo's passing.

While we love it, in the end it isn't the world. JT can win a NC, but it isn't the greatest thing he does.

Aas far as what went wrong, imo:

1. TGII's absence
2. JT getting away from his philosophy. Going for it on 4th down didn't kill him, but it set up the momentum for the Gators to run away with it. If he did traditional Tresselball, at least it is a manageable situation going into the lockerroom.

Great season all the same. Dust yourselves off and get ready for a run in March.

I think you're dead wrong. TGII attacts major attention in the defensive secondary. That attention opens up opportunities for the #3, #4 or even #5 WRs. There were more than a few plays where Troy had the time to find those opportunities, but unfortunately, without #7 stretching the 'D', they weren't there.

Not sure what you mean by 'Heacock's Mess'. Please explain. :p

I get what you are saying, but if I recall correctly (and I might not being so upset) it was Harvey and the other Beast putting the pressure on Troy and not a blitzing Smith or Nelson. So, regardless of who was running routes and who wasn't they were still abusing Boone et al thus resulting in pressure, hurries, sacks, fumbles and picks by Troy. Now, maybe they played a different package because he was hurt....we'll never really know because he was hurt early.

As far Heacock, I think the zones he employs puts our better athletes into positions to make plays against clearly inferior athletes from weaker B10 competition. That seems to not work well against better skilled teams without making adjustments. The problem, IMO, is I can't understand why you have to wait until your teeth are kicked in to make a change?

I totally agree. Ginn changes how defenses play us just by being on the field, even if he doesn't touch the ball. Unforunately for Ginn and tOSU, he simply got hurt at a bad time, and we fans learned this lesson that we previously never considered b/c I don't think Ginn's ever missed a game due to injury.

fans maybe, but i do not believe at all that the players thought this way. they just came out flat. i dont think that they thought it was a cake walk - JT is too good of a coach to allow that.
I kept thinking that. I kept waiting for the comeback. I'm still waiting.

My head is held low. Great things were accomplished...but they were all for naught. I feel bad, but then I think about those who 'played' the game, and they must feel worse. Coaches, you share their pain.

Absolutely. Just wanted to get that out. There is definately a lot that went wrong...like everything after the opening kickoff.:(

About midway though the second quarter, I started thinking that that KO return for Teddy might have been a curse that lulled us into a false sense of security. Of course, the that might have been the beers I was chugging.

God I'm not even that morbid at this point.....

Tomorrow will be another day in life. For the Seniors say Thanks for the memories, for everyone leaving early, good luck, for everyone staying, let's get it on for next year.

Thank you for the good luck wishes especially from a Michigan fan :).

What you said above confuses me as to how they could even consider it. Why should Ohio State have to beat Michigan twice to win the National Championship when Michigan would only have to beat us once to win it. That wouldn't be fair at all, and everyone knows that.

Who said Michigan would have won the National Championship if they beat OSU?

The way I see it, the National Championship, right now, is a tie. Florida, Wisconsin, Ohio State, Louisville and Boise State all have an equal (maybe an edge to Boise State) claim to the title.

Sure, they play differently but the lineman don't just stop trying to kill Troy! We couldn't block them! Was Teddy going to play O line?

No disrespect intended, but you're missing the point. Several times TS was sacked or hurried, he had time to throw, but no one was open. They were coverage sacks, and TS might have had someone to throw to if Ginn were around to stretch the field.

The only thing that ticked me off was the lack of adjustment by the coaching staff. When we can't stop either D end and 3-4 blitzers isn't doing the job, changes need to be made. But congrats to Florida, they took what we gave them and exploited it all night.

Man alive, very tough game tonight guys. For some reason, Florida just looked like they were the better team for tonight. Their defense was sick, Ginn's loss seemed huge for you guys, but I am an outsider, so I will let you guys handle the analysis. Anyway, as I said before the game, I really enjoyed following your guys this year and last year, and I am a big fan of Troy Smith, I think he was a great player for you guys, and grew to be a better person. So congrats on your fantastic season and we'll see you guys back at the top next year or the year after at the least.
